Using ChatGPT for interview task

I'm applying to this job and they sent me this sort of data analysis task to do. It's quite complicated and what I did at uni doesn't exactly cover it so I'm outsourcing most of the thinking to AI. Is that a problem? I imagine it will be quite obvious and I'm not sure if its something they will be happy about.

Yes, I think it's a problem.

Firstly, they want to see if you can do it, not a piece of software.

Secondly, if you don't understand the task then you won't know if what ChatGPT churns out is even correct.

You should be troubleshooting using other resources - for suggestions on how to approach the analysis - and then doing it yourself.

Ultimately, if this is the test task then this is likely to be the job. If a piece of software could do the job to the standard they want, then they wouldn't need to hire someone.
