Does Clearing need a new personal statement for an entirely different course?

I'm making backup plans right now, and one of the includes clearing for a different course entirely. Will they ask for a new personal statement or will they just look at your grades, ask a few questions, and let you in? Thank you all

They probably won’t ask for a new PS but it’s a good idea to drafts some bullet points explaining why you are interested in the subject and any super curriculars etc. that way if they ask over the phone you are prepared and IF they ask for a new PS you have a first draft already prepared.

Hi @Imperial Soldier 🙂, great idea to start thinking about all of your options! A new personal statement isn't always needed and will depend on the university and course you are applying for, but I would recommend having one prepared - just in case.

There really isnt time to start reading new PS on Results Day - all they will be interested in is your grades.

Hello there,
It is probably good to look at writing a small section of bullet points or notes related to the entirely separate course as this will help with any questions they may or may not ask on the day over the phone and form the basis of any document they might ask you to send. At Coventry University you can apply to any one of our courses with industry years or foundation years through clearing if they are listed on our clearing website and we have a wide range of courses each year. Also grade boundaries for clearing are typically lower making entry slightly easier.

Hope this helps

Hi, Imperial Soldier
If you’re applying through Clearing for a different course, LSBU will require a new personal statement to explain your interest, especially if it’s very different from your original choice. While your grades are the primary consideration, this additional statement helps admissions understand your motivation, relevant skills, and any work experience you have. When applying online or by phone, there’s a section where you can include this statement or details about your work experience, giving you a chance to strengthen your application.
You may receive a decision on the spot if you apply by phone, though this depends on the course’s availability and whether you meet the entry criteria. LSBU’s Priority Clearing is now open, so you can apply presently and potentially secure your place early. You can register or apply directly using the link: Apply for Priority Clearing or regular Clearing at LSBU

Hi there,

It's great that you're planning ahead to clearing and considering changing courses. Most universities won't ask for a complete new personal statement but will ask some questions about your experience, passion, and extra curriculars etc. It's good to have a list ready prior to making the clearing call to eliminate any anxiety you may be feeling. When calling to discuss your Clearing options with us, we recommend having the following information to hand:

Your personal UCAS ID number

Your results (GCSE, A-Level, BTEC etc.)

A list of courses you're interested in

Relevant portfolio, if needed for your course

Any relevant/transferrable work experience that may support your application

Some courses require an interview, so please be prepared as you may be interviewed on the day by a member of our academic team over the phone.

You can explore our clearing advice and register your interest here: University Clearing Guidance.

Hope this helps, ^Hannah 🙂
