Has anyone else struggled to get released from student accommodation even after finding a replacement?
I’m wondering if anyone has been through something similar and can offer advice or reassurance.
I’ve been trying to get released from my student accommodation contract after finding a replacement tenant. I’ve been told that the replacement tenant signed a booking form and paid the holding deposit over two weeks ago, and I was told that the room is “no longer available” when I tried to offer alternative tenants. Despite this, I still haven’t received written confirmation that I’ve been released, and the room is still listed as available on their website.
They’ve refused to consider any of the other people I found. Every update I’ve had has come from me chasing them — not from them contacting me like they said they would.
I just want to know if this is normal or if I should push harder. Am I technically still liable for the room until everything is fully signed? How long did it take for other people to be officially released?
Any insight or advice would help — this whole process is really stressful and confusing.
They said they’d keep me updated with how the application progressed further but I just don’t understand what else there could be they’ve said the room isn’t available, holding deposit has been paid, booking form signed and they said they don’t want any alternative people. My contract with them has been deleted but this doesn’t realise me from the tenancy.
I’m so confused can anyone help.
Thanks!
