need urgent help

i have received offers from both UEA and university of liverpool for psychology. i love both unis but ofc liverpool is more prestigious and the city itself seems nice. the only downside is the distance from home (4 hours) and as someone who is extremely indecisive, my biggest fear is regretting my choice. i just want what’s best for me but even i don’t know what is. i’ve been to the UEA open days but not liverpool because it’s too far, however i have researched a lot about the university and the city and its great. i really don’t know what to make my first choice (both require the same grades).

Please repost with a more specific title - people are more likely to find your post with relevant knowledge and be able to help you (e.g people from that university).

Seeing this title i thought it was about someone who was about to do something drastic to themselves, not a question about university choices.

Congrats on your offers! I've just finished a four-year psychology with a placement year degree at UEA and loved it.

Firstly, UEA and Liverpool are right next to each other in the Psychology Rankings, so in terms of prestige I wouldn't let that sway you too much. What career are you hoping to go into? That might be able to help us advise you as some careers value experience etc., over prestige.

I was also quite undecisive about my choices. I went to a couple of places and they just didn't 'click' with me like UEA did. I absolutely loved it when I went for my Open Day and didn't look back. Is there any way you can get to Liverpool, even just to look around? I know it's a long way from you but you're going to be spending a minimum of 3 years there so it's really important you can see yourself living there.

Are there any other things that you want to focus on? When I was making my decision I had an Excel spreadsheet with headings like Cost of Living, Accommodation, Grades Needed... heck, even how long it took me to walk to the local shops! If you really enjoy clubs and societies or nightlife you could put these as headings. Then, you could gather information about each of the unis and fill it in. So if in-person teaching is important to you, for example, a uni that offered this would get perhaps a '3' in that category. Then, the highest-scoring uni would logically be your best choice!

I can only really speak for UEA and I absolutely loved my time there- and I've stayed on for a masters too! The teaching, support, city and university campus were amazing and I just love Norfolk 😊

Let me know if you have any questions about UEA or if you want help setting up that spreadsheet. Good luck and I'm sure you'll choose the right option.
