Cambridge law

Hey just a quick question how much do GCSEs matter when apply to Cambridge for law? Does anyone have a rough idea how Cambridge weigh their offers taking into account LNAT, A level grades and GCSE

GCSEs are not taken into account when applying for university unless there's a big inconsistency with your grades (e.g you got a 9 in a GCSE but a D at the equivalent a-level

I believe it was around 15%

Hi! I’m currently a first year student reading law at St John’s College! My GCSEs on nowhere near good honestly in fact, I’m quite embarrassed when people ask but they are 3334456A89. I was rejected from LSE, Bristol & Warwick based on my GCSEs 🥲

It is important to note that I did apply on achieved grades of A*A*A at A level. My LNAT was a 26😊

I don’t think Cambridge places as much emphasis as Oxford on GCSEs, although they do still play a part. I think your A Level/ IB & your interview/ admissions assessments have a substantial role in the decision process in comparison to GCSEs.

Very little, really - particularly if you're predicted (or have achieved) excellent A levels. Cambridge is more interested in progress than historic results, and if you can show strong and clear progression in terms of attainment from GCSE to A level, plus the usual requirements of enthusiasm for your subject, 'teachability' etc, then you don't need to fret about some slightly dodgy GCSE results.

Congratulations on getting into Cambridge and reading Law at St John’s that’s such an incredible achievement, you should be so proud of yourself! Thank you so much for your honesty and for sharing your experience. It’s really encouraging to hear, especially as someone who’s been feeling quite stressed about GCSEs. Your insight about Cambridge focusing more on A-levels, the LNAT and the interview is really reassuring. Wishing you all the best for the rest of your time at Cambridge and thanks again for the advice! 😊

Thank you so much for this it’s really reassuring to hear! It’s easy to feel disheartened when GCSEs aren’t perfect, so knowing that Cambridge values progress and potential makes such a difference. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your insight, especially about how much weight is placed on A-level performance, enthusiasm and teachability. It’s definitely helped ease my worries! 😊
