alevel choices and dentistry

Hi,
Im going into yr12 in the autumn and for my A levels I have picked Biology, Chemistry, Geography. I know biology and chemistry are needed for dentistry, but am I doing myself a disservice by not doing maths. I could do it at A levels if I wanted because I just sat higher tier maths.

Honestly, I don't think it matters, as long as you got a decent GCSE maths grade.

Good luck

Hey! I'm also doing Biology, Chemistry and Geography A-Levels, coming up to year 13 now. I'm aiming for medicine and not doing maths hasn't disadvantaged me whatsoever. Definitely a combo I recommend too if you like all of those subjects. If you want to know anything about those subjects or that combo, feel free to ask

Hey, thanks for the comment!

Just a few niche questions- How is the work load? is it more hard to manage than gsces. And also do a lot of people do that combo?

hiya  you do not need maths at all unless a uni requires it, and off the top of my head i can’t think of any dent unis that do require maths but obvs check. also, if a uni doesn’t require it but you still decide to take maths, you do not have any advantage. ignorant people tried to convince me i needed maths when i didn’t. hated it and dropped it anyways. do the subject you like man!

any questions feel free to ask as i applied dent this year

also for the quantitative reasoning section in ucat, the maths involved is only up to gcse level so you’re not disadvantaged there either.

also, when you’re actually in uni, med and dent students told me there isn’t much maths involved and if there is, again it’s just gcse level otherwise AL maths would’ve been a requirement.

i feel strongly abt this bc people pressured me so hard to do maths w misinformation, including my crusty ahh sixth form.

You're very welcome!
For the workload, it can definitely be a bit overwhelming if you're not really interested in those subjects. Biology has quite a lot of content, and chemistry can definitely get complex at times, but they're definitely both very managable. Geography content really isn't much of a step up from GCSE. Some things get more complex but it's not too much harder than GCSE. Just be aware that geography also has 20 markers in exams at A-level too, as well as coursework (atleast for AQA).

As for whether a lot of people do that combo, I haven't seen too many people doing it, but I sometimes see the odd few here on tsr.
