Music Theory and Analysis

Hoping to study music at Cambridge next year, with my personal passion being analysis methods throughout the ages (neo-riemannian, Neo-schenkerian, pitch class/set theory etc.). Any advice for reading/prepping for interview?

Hiya,

I'm not from Cambridge (am an alumna from The Other Place, aka Oxford). If those are your interests, I imagine you are already fairly well-read!

Reading Nicholas Cook's Music: A Very Short Introduction (Oxford Uni Press) is useful prep for the musicology side of an Oxbridge music interview. Though don't worry or panic if you don't gel with it/can't understand it: I only began to 'get' it on my third attempt at reading it (during my second year of studying music at Oxford! )!
