Hi Israel Jones!

That’s a tricky question, there are lots of amazing universities for nursing so I’m not sure I could give you a top five. However I can tell you a little about the School of Nursing at my university (LJMU).

Firstly our School of Nursing was awarded Nurse Education Provider of the Year (pre-registration)' 2021 Winner and 'Best Student Experience' 2020 Winner (Student Nursing Times Awards). Additionally, 95% of students surveyed said the academic support on our nursing courses was good or very good (National Student Survey 2024).

Studying on our NMC accredited BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult) degree will give you the opportunity to complete practice learning placements in a variety of settings, including hospital and out of hospital settings, and in simulated practice learning placements. You may also be interested in our BSc (Hons) Child Nursing or BSc (Hons) Mental Health Nursing courses.

95% of our adult nursing graduates go on to employment or further study within 15 months of graduating (Source: discoveruni.gov.uk)

If you’d like to find our more you can view all our course through this link: https://www.ljmu.ac.uk/study/courses#tab-search-by-keyword

Best of luck with your university search!

All nursing degrees are approved by the NMC and are therefore of the same standard, and it won't matter to your future employers where you have studied. Choose a uni in a location where you'd be happy to live (and can afford) for three years and check the location(s) of the placements.

Okay thanks for the advice 😊
Hi @Israel Jones,

As other commenters have said, there are lots of amazing nursing courses in the UK, and many universities have links to local teaching hospitals and community care, so I'm sure you'll benefit from lots of hands-on experience during your placements wherever you choose. But I wanted to say that choosing a nursing course is such a big decision, and will also depend on factors like what type of nursing you'd like to go into, and where you see yourself based for three years while you study.

At Southampton, we're ranked 1st in the UK for Midwifery (Guardian University Guide, 2025), 3rd in the UK for Nursing (QS World Rankings, 2025), and our courses are all accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Students study in our incredible nursing hub on Highfield Campus, which is where you'll carry out your practical skills sessions. The building has simulation hospital wards as well. And we're well connected in Hampshire and beyond, with nursing students carrying out placements at hospitals and clinics, including at University Hospital Southampton. You can find out about our courses and explore stats and student stories here: Nursing, midwifery and healthcare | University of Southampton

95% of our students work in a skilled profession or further study after completing their degree (*latest The Graduate Outcomes Survey, which surveys student outcomes 15 months after graduating). Which is awesome!

I hope your search for your perfect course goes well! 🤗
