The Student Room Group

your unofficial guide to surviving uni life

with a-levels officially over, the anticipation of results day closes in with anxieties about starting uni ramping up. here's a quick guide based on what i've picked up in my first year at uni (the hard way):

studying
no one chases you for deadlines, so get comfy with a calendar. use your uni's study skills team, and don't be afraid to ask questions - trust me when i say literally no one remembers.

making friends
you don't have to meet your best friends in week one. join societies, chat to people in your course, and give it time - everyone's figuring it out too.

money
budgeting apps will save you. look out for student discounts!

food
learn how to make three decent meals and one "impressive" one for when your mates come over. tiktok/instagram has the best student-friendly recipes. try not to rely on takeaways - your bank account will thank you !!

mental health
uni can be overwhelming. take breaks, talk to someone, use the wellbeing service

πŸ’¬ current students - what's one thing you wish someone told you before starting uni?
