5 choices:
Want to apply for econ at QMUL (safe), KCL, UCL, Cambridge and politics and econ at LSE

However I am considering Manchester and Birmingham into the equation since ppl have said it’s too risky.

Lmk how much chance I have at getting at least one of the 4 aspiring

Huge chance of all 5 of them giving you offers with those grades

not true, you're easily good enough for KCL and probably UCL but LSE and cambridge you can never be sure. Expect rejection from those two, but you definitely have a strong application so you stand a chance

Applying to something as competitive as Economics at all four of LSE, KCL, UCL, Cambridge is never a good idea. These Unis are mega-competitive, get vast numbers of applications, and can be exceptionally picky about who they make an offer to. Every year, thousands, yes thousands, of applicants who meet - or even exceed - the entry requirements will be rejected.

Applying to Cambridge plus any of these choices is still risky - but you could just apply to Cambridge by the October deadline and then wait to see if you get an interview or not. You can add your other 4 choices at any point up to the January deadline, and knowing where you are with Cambridge may mean you need to make make more strategic choices like Brum, Bristol, Manc etc. Many people don't realise that you can do this sort of 'split' application - including teachers.

Yh I personally thought that but applying for Cambridge is mainly just for the like experience and competition as well like I’m not expecting much from it as I shouldn’t but I think it’s just aspirations and it helps me with my overall application and a levels

yeah just replace one of KCL, UCL and LSE with either manchester of Birmingham and you have a decent spread

At the end of the day, if you think you'll be fine to get the grades, you only need one offer. So if you think QMUL is safe, those 5 are fine. If manchester or birmingham have lower grades I would suggest adding one of them into the mix, but other than that take the risk! You won't know if you don't try.

Yh I looked through Manchester specifically and they are very lenient although at AAA and it is somewhere I like more + they say it’s anyways an advantage to have further maths so I’m considering that as my 5th

Hey, I was in a similar boat to you last year, my stats are gcse 98888877777 alevels predicted A*A*A* in maths econ business, applied to bath, kcl, ucl, lse econ and politics and ox e&m. I was accepted by bath ucl and kcl but rejected from lse(ps)and oxford(tsa was trash) PLEASE listen when I say that you have to and I repeat have to when you apply to lse econ and politics have your personal statement revolve equally around politics and econ. It isn’t enough to write only about econ or like I did sprinkle a tiny bit of politics in there. If you want to apply to lse econ and politics you should probably apply to all the others as econ and politics too so your ps will also relate to those courses. Btw your supracirriculars are great, I wouldn’t bother with having “safety schools” tbh. Apply where you would be happy to go. With your grades you can easily get into atleast one of them, I have worse subjects than u, I literaly took business 💀 and still got 3/5 offers and one to literally one of the most competitive courses in the country. Honestly you don’t just have a chance you’re extremely competitive. I hope all goes well for you. Good luck

Manchester University is easy to get into cause they literally accept ANYONE who applies. I think you have a High chance into getting into Cambridge University cause that's like the Harvard of England and based on your education results, and your experience, its a really positive look and places like Cambridge look for students like you. Also geographical location is important too so if you want to move away from your parents house, go to university's that are further away from you or if you want to be closer to home, pick a university that is closer to you. Overall, look at the university's reputation and see if the way that they do things suits your preference needs

Thanks sm! I did realise my personal statement will have equal amounts but I can link the politics well to economics anyways to I don’t think it will be too bad (Cambridge LSE and Kcl will like it due to their course content)

why wasn’t I as smart as u last year 😭. Lse are really annoying about their application process but honestly if you do everything they say then you have a good chance. A girl I was literally tutoring got into lse ppe by having a personal statement that showed she wanted to do ppe and having good subject combinations even tho she only had a*aa or A*ab or smth . Me doing business and having a mostly economics themed ps definitely backfired but honestly the econ and politics course is definitely achievable for you. I’d say definitely put in about ur essay competitions that sounds really interesting and from what I’ve heard top unis want ur ps to be like 90% academic stuff and 10% if anythign at all like personal lives. I’m pretty sure lse don’t like you doing fm and maths at the same time because they like you having broad subject knowledge prior to joining them, but since u do chem you’re completely fine. Honestly I think u have a really good chance of getting into lse. Really spend this summer going to loads of open days if u can just to shop around a bit and see what you like, maybe look into Warwick and bath/durham? To be honest you’re so competitive I wouldn’t even bother applying to Queen Mary as a safety(but please don’t hold me accountable for saying this lmao). You’re pretty much guaranteed to get into a great course and you’d probably feel bad if you ended up to qmul(ofc this is all personal but if u do wanna aim for top unis it might feel a bit like a waste of a spot) I personally didn’t apply to any safeties and also many people I met at the ucl econ offer holder day didn’t either, a guy I met applied to Warwick ucl Oxford lse and Durham, he got into Warwick ucl and Durham but his TMUA was like 4 or smth so not ox and lse. Oh also another note please start prepping for TMUA early, idk about you but I found some of the questions hard af and soooo many people did so terribly this year because they just didn’t prep and I think the test got harder or smth, and don’t book it for October that was such a stupid mistake from me. I ended up as an early applicant literally having like TSA, mocks,TMUA and the ucas deadline all in the month of October and I physically couldn’t cope, just book it for January nobody cares anyway(though do check if Cambridge need it earlier but im not sure they do). Ucl will require the TMUA next year, they didn’t for me lmao, but they still won’t be too strict about it, idk if ur looking at Warwick but they already require it and a couple guys from the ucl offer holder day got in with really low scores like 3-4. The TMUA only requires knowledge of AS maths but do make sure if ur school doesn’t sit AS maths that you check all the content because sometimes like in my school they didn’t teach us AS maths and I had to learn a bunch of lessons early. For politics and econ lse doesn’t require the TMUA at all which is why I picked it lol. Sorry I bombarded u with info I just don’t want you to make the same mistakes as me, hope this helps 😭

Oh btw note that kings is really weird about their application process, I got an offer but I saw sooo many really good applicants like 3/4a*s getting rejected for literally no reason despite like some people having worse grades and getting in, they’re like the most random uni for who they pick. They also have some annoying ass bureaucracy idk if you’ve seen all the videos complaining but the uni is apparently really poorly ran, they like forget to give bursary’s and remarks and stuff and also they were really inflexible when I asked to switch to their econ course even tho I literally asked on like December 1st and their equal consideration deadline was literally Jan 31 like what??? and also their econ department isn’t really that highly rated since it just opened like 10 years ago. But it really depends on what u wanna do in the future I suppose. Since ur applying for politics and econ im gonna assume u don’t wanna go into IB? Which btw great choice because I’m bored of hearing people who take econ for IB 😭 if you want to go into something like public policy or intl development kings might not be the best choice just purely from a reputational standpoint, also idk where ur from but they literally have the most expensive accom in the whole of the uk at smth crazy like £882 a month. Basically just some kings slander for u lolll

Also to add on for politics I’m doing an essay comp for it and extra reading so I cover both aspects
