If a teacher uses ChatGPT to write an assignment, can students use ChatGPT to answer?

so one of my teachers uses chatgpt to write our assignments (btw this is for RS so 99% of our hwk is stupid long essays). now this teacher cannot teach (she yaps on about netflix for 99% of the lesson) and still expects us to learn. over half the class js copy pastes chatgpt for the hwk and she doesnt care. im js asking to see ur opinions on whether this is OK?

It sounds like she's being a bit lazy about it. But remember you are there to learn and develop your ability to formulate thoughts. Using ChatGPT defeats the purpose of your work.

What do you actually mean by 'write our assignments' - do you mean devising essay titles/questions?

And do you have any evidence of the teacher's ChatGPT involvement or is just that you dont like the questions.

Teachers are being encouraged to use ChatGPT and similar to reduce workload so nothing lost there. The question you need to ask yourself is why are you at school? To do work for your teacher or to learn something? If your view is the first one, then why are you even bothering to submit work from ChatGPT? However, if you are in it to learn something, then using ChatGPT is again a waste of time because you are gaining nothing from it.

I think it is such a shame that school is framed as some sort of employment for children rather than something that is lifting, enlightening and ultimately something that can take you places.

How many students are there for the lifestyle, to get a piece of paper to get them a well paying job regardless if it's needed or not.

It is needed. Those out of work, more often than not don't have a piece of paper and no doubt think school was a waste of their time. Meanwhile, those deemed to be successful in society tend to have whole walls full of pieces of paper that essentially give them access to a fulfilling and profitable lifestyle.

Obviously young people know everything until they hit 30 and discover the cruel reality of how our society actually works. For the children of those with with power and influence, they will always have power and influence as it is carefully inherited. For the rest of us, the only guaranteed way to make it work is with those pointless bits of paper. Trouble is, if you have earned your paper by cheating, it all comes crumbling down when it is discovered you cheated and can't actually do what you said you can.

Some of this is definitely true but all of these replies are a bit deep considering the topic is... GCSE RS.

The use of ChatGPT by the teacher here is a bit confusing. It's bound to produce bad questions without appropriate mark schemes, so the students actually might as well use ChatGPT to cheat on them. I'd just make sure to do actual past paper questions and real essay questions to practice, instead of just following the teacher's shite.

That's ignoring my point which was about credentialism.

Hello @EnigmaticDeath

This is an interesting question. I would suggest that Chat GPT has a place in education and that one of those places would be for teachers to create new exam style questions. This is because they can be unique, unseen papers which will reflect exams because you would have never seen them before and would not have access to any mark schemes.

I would also suggest that students use Chat GPT and other such AIs to support their learning. However, using AI to complete homework or assessments is something I strongly disagree with. This is because, firstly, you need to keep it fair for everyone, and secondly because this is your education and a test of your knowledge. If you just copy the answers which have been generated by Chat GPT, you are doing yourself an incredible disadvantage as well as turning down opportunities to develop and improve your academic writing.

This is particularly the case if you want to go to university, as they do make use of course work but they can tell if someone has used AI. If a university student uses AI for their assessments when it is not allowed, this is an extremely serious disciplinary offence and the most severe sanction could be that they are kicked off their course.

Therefore, don't use chat GPT for homework or assessments but instead do yourself a big favour and develop your academic skills.

I hope this helps. If you have any further questions, please do let me know.

That makes SO much sense back in 5th grade ( FYI it has been years since then ) we did a Night at The museum thing I'm not going to get into much details but my teacher she used Chatgpt to edit our scripts and information report on our boards and changed it it annoyed me so much and I look back to it to this day
