hi everyone

i think you should go for it. since its your native language, it should be easy get a good grade with a bit of revision (like A or A*). usually universities can reduce your placement offer if you're doing or done 4 alevels, but keep in mind, some don't take UCAS points into account. you should probably check if your universities of choice will do the same.

Is your particular criminology qualification accepted by the universities to which you want to apply? If not, definitely take Italian.

Hi there!

Most Universities/courses only require 3 A Levels (or equivalent) so it's not necessary to take 4. Some students may find that taking on the extra workload of a 4th A Level could impact their grades. I believe it's better to have 3 strong A Levels than 4 slightly weaker ones!

However, some specialist courses (such as Medicine, Law, Engineering...) may look out for applicants with an extra A Level, so if you're confident in your ability to handle the extra work then this may make you stand out. Since Italian is your native language this will make it easier for you, but there will still be a lot of extra work.

Overall, my advice would be that whilst it's not necessary to take 4 A Levels to get a good place at University, you should look into the requirements for any institutions or courses that you may be interested in. If they are looking for 4 A Levels, or are highly competitive courses to get onto, then the Italian A Level would be a good way to go for you.

I hope this helps! Best of luck

I'd strongly advise you to take Italian in preference to one of the other A levels, particularly given you should have quite a head start in it. Your other choices are not the strongest academic subjects and if you're thinking of doing law at a good uni (which I'm guessing by your A level choices you might be) you'd need 3 academic A levels. An applied A level, such as criminology, is not the same offering as a traditional academic A level like English, maths, history, a MFL etc. Business is just about passable in lieu of economics, and most universities now are ambivalent about A level law.
