Hi there! I'd like to know whether having an existing contextual offer with you affects my chances of gaining entry (through clearing). I have finished my exams but I may have narrowly missed a required grade in one subject that I do, which is a bummer 😭

Hi hard-core-spruce.

I'm sorry to hear you are not so confident in your exam results.

Do take a look at our guidance for offer holders as this shows some information about Confirmation the period when Admissions will be checking exam results against conditions.

If you firmly accept our conditional offer but are unable to satisfy the terms exactly, we will reconsider our offer in August in the light of your actual performance and the performance of others seeking entry to the same programme. However, you should be aware that we can make no guarantee that it will be possible to accept you if you do not meet the conditions exactly.

If you have a specific subject grade requirement then this must be met.

If you do not have your offer confirmed on results day there may still be a chance to reapply in clearing (perhaps for an alternative course) so do monitor our clearing webpages in advance.

best wishes

Hi all

Just to confirm our clearing application form is now available. There's no need to call our admissions team. If you have your grades already you can now check course availability and apply. https://www.exeter.ac.uk/study/clearing/

There is also the option to sign up for updates so you we can keep you informed on our clearing activities as we get closer to the A-level results day.

Checking our webpages now will be a good way to prepare should you need to use clearing.

Wishing you all well for your exam results and hoping you won't need to use our facilities for Clearing but we'll be here if you do.

If you are a bit unsure where to start with Clearing then take a look on our Clearing 2025 webpages. We have two great informative videos to get you clued up whether clearing may work for you whether you are a UK student or International.

Don't forget you can also sign up for updates from our clearing pages so we can keep you informed on the Clearing process, available subjects and a reminder to check back with us when you get your results.

A-level results day is nearly here, and we understand it can be a stressful time.

If things don’t go exactly as planned, don’t worry. There are still plenty of options available, and Clearing is a well-established route into university for many students each year.

👉You can now explore our list of degree courses currently available through Clearing

We’ll be updating these lists again after A-level results are released on Thursday 14 August - so be sure to check back early, as more courses and places may become available.

Hi Tinisok

I'm sorry to hear you haven't been accepted by us. If your original offer was for Computer Science and your grades are below those indicated on the clearing pages then we have not been able to accept you to the course. If you did not already apply for Computer Science then it is listed on our clearing pages with the entry requirement as BCC with Grade B at A'level in Mathematics or equivalent excluding General Studies. GCSE English Language Grade C/4 also required.

It's relatively straightforward to apply as all you need to do is to complete the clearing form on vacancy page https://vacancies.exeter.ac.uk/clearing/home/ - no need to call us just apply online.

How long does Exeter take to officially confirm UCAS clearing once added after verbal and email offer?

Hi, my yp had Exeter as insurance choice accepted with Nottingham as firm choice. He didn’t get the grades required for his first choice course at Nottingham but was offered a different course which he is not keen on. He has applied to get one if his subjects remarked/re checked to see if it gets his grades upgraded to get in his first choice. If he rejects the different course offered is there a deadline for accepting the insurance place at Exeter depending on how long the priority remarking takes

Hi Nuttybox

Once the UCAS application comes onto our admissions system we will be processing these asap. So hopefully you should have this within 24 hours. There may be a few that take longer if something in the information isn't clear. So please do keep an eye on UCAS and your emails for updates and remember to check the junk/spam folder for comms from us.

You may like to check back with us on Monday if you have not had the formal offer in UCAS by then.

Hi Cartman1976

If the alternative offer at Nottingham is declined by your yp the the insurance choice will automatically become the firm choice. Assuming that the conditions for the offer with Exeter have been met with the results as they stand.

To get more specific information I would suggest calling our admissions team 0300 555 60 60
