Psychology and Neuroscience Degree

Guys I want to take this degree but I literally can’t find out much information about it. Is that bad? Also if anyone does this can you please tell me how’s it’s like? Also anyone here who does these degree but separately? Can you tell me how it’s like for you?
I’m either going to do just psychology or psychology and neuroscience as a degree and I want to go into research in the future. Can anyone please give me some advice?
Thank you.

Look at the modules on uni websites
See if those unis have uni buddy so you can chat to current students
Read any personal statement guides and degree guides for those subjects to give you can idea of if its a good course for you
As its combined honours, it’s possible it isnt offered by many unis and isnt in too high demand which would explain the lacking resources about it

@s1ren

There is a great article on STEM careers in Psychology and Neuroscience which might interest you

https://www.braintasticscience.com/post/careers-in-psychology-neuroscience

The British Neuroscience Association have some useful resources on their website too

I did a 'standard' MSc Psychology (conversion) at Arden. It really does depend on what area of research you want to go into? There would be different paths to follow if you were interested in something like educational psychology

Hi @s1ren!🌟

Psychology and neuroscience degree is basically a psychology degree with a bit more focus on neuroscience. This is because after graduation we are all (and I mean psychology graduates) looking to get a BPS accreditation. To get accredited you have to study specific courses which include biological, social, cognitive, developmental, health psychology, individual differences, as well as research methods and statistics. The neuroscience bit comes in a form of optional modules however from my point of view it does look more credible after graduation. The bottom line is that regardless which one you will choose you will still be studying very similar if not the same modules with a little bit more freedom when choosing your electives.🎓🚀

If you would like to compare those degrees I strongly recommend checking BSc Psychology and BSc Psychology with Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Essex page. This should give you a more clear idea of what to expect from both degrees.🌳🌈

Hope this helps! If you have any more questions regarding these courses please do not hesitate to get in touch.😊

Hello @s1ren,

That’s great to hear that you are interested in psychology and neuroscience! Which universities were you looking at for this course?

At Southampton, we do psychology and neuroscience as separate courses, however if you take psychology, there is a chance to take the neuroscience modules. I did one in first year and it was so interesting and the lecturer was great! Choosing psychology on its own instead of a joint honours may give you a chance to make your degree more flexible and discover other areas you might be interested in. On the other hand, neuroscience and psychology is great if you know you would definitely want to go into neuroscience in the future.

Hope this helped and let me know if you have anymore questions!
