Retaking A levels

Hello, i am currently retaking my a levels and I think i wont do well in them. I had to go to my home country due to an emergency as my grandpa was really ill and i went for a month which was in april and i got back towards the week of my first exam. this hindered my progress and i fell so behind. After doing these exams i dont think i will get the results i need. I also went to uni at the start of 2024 and i was doing a foundation year but decided to drop out as i did not like the uni and i dont want student debt. I am so afraid on what happens next. I have no goals and i did not even apply to uni. I honestly should have stayed at the uni the more i think about it, i dont even have a job, I feel like i have ruined my life because if i retake twice no uni will take me. i am applying for jobs nonstop but i have not gotten a response. Could someone pls help me

Hi @broshik,

Thank you for reaching out 😊

I’m really sorry to hear about your grandpa being unwell, that must have been a very difficult time for you.

It’s completely understandable that your studies were affected by this and your worries about your exams. Many people feel unsure about their exam performance but then do better than expected, so try not to stress too much until you receive your results, even though I know that’s easier said than done.

You’re definitely not ruining your life. If university is still something you want to pursue, there are many different routes into higher education. For example, Access to Higher Education courses can be a great alternative pathway. It’s also worth looking into Clearing, where universities sometimes lower entry requirements and offer places for a wide range of courses. If you'd like more information on clearing, our clearing thread has lots of useful advice.

Applying for jobs can feel really draining and frustrating, so please remember to be kind to yourself and take things step by step. Things often work out, even when it feels uncertain.

If you’d like, I can also share information about support services or help you get in touch with university admissions teams who can offer advice tailored to your situation.

I hope that this helps!

Best wishes,

Clare
