Economics personal statement 2026

Hi, I'm looking for advice around writing a personal statement for economics. Starting point, tips, what to say and what not too, good things to include/talk about...etc. I've been listening to podcasts, read some books and done work xp and done some MOOC's.

Any advice would be helpful!!!

Hey! Not sure if you're aware but the format for the personal stament is changing in 2026. :o:

"For students applying to university for 2026 entry, the personal statement format will be changing from one longer piece of text to three separate sections. In our commitment to equity and inclusion, we believe that every student deserves a fair chance to articulate their unique journey, aspirations, and potential." - UCAS

SO I think a starting point is to know what these three sections are and to write longer pieces, like mini personal statements, for each.

having a check box of what you need to do / list of what you have done like MOOCs, school/community work (like clubs and volunteering) is the best way to start in my opinion. When you have this, you can narrow down the most important to add and what you can afford to exclude.

Hi @user7292
Well done at starting some super curricular activities to include in your personal statement!
Its also important to display your passion for studying economics and what you have learned from your further reading and MOOC'S ect. Has it allowed you to learn a new economic topic outside of the A level syllabus or have you got a deeper understanding of a topic which you are now excited to study at university.
Its important to include what skills you have developed from these opportunities and how they have benefitted your understanding of economics.
Hope this helps!
