Finding IT Apprenticeships

I want to complete an IT Apprenticeship. Preferably in IT Support or IT Helpdesk. I was wondering would a degree in Computing in general more on the software of computing than hardware prevent me from doing an apprenticeship? Also does anyone have any tips or advice please how I can find an IT Apprenticeship or where to find one please?

Why are you looking at studying a degree prior to doing an apprenticeship? An apprentice is, in large part, meant to provide the training that a degree (historically) provided and as you probably know apprenticeships often offer degree qualifications

You can find apprenticeships on the gov.uk website and on other job boards. Your school should also be able to offer advice

As to general computing/software/hardware - this is a bit of an aimless question given my first point but yes, computer science and software are not especially relevant to IT support/admin/helpdesking

Sorry I already did a degree in Computing I meant but I want to do an Apprenticeship in IT Support or IT Helpdesk or IT Sales. I just wanted to know whether my degree would clash with the Apprenticeship and the best places to actually find an Apprenticeship because I have tried the government website for ages now but I have had no luck.

Oh right. Well I doubt a degree in computing is really going to affect your chances. Apprenticeships aren't really selecting based on prior knowledge and experience, at least not the type that a degree provides

Your degree won't 'clash' with anything - it's just a degree. You can always do two degrees or have multiple different jobs throughout your life - it's not like studying both A level Economics and Business, for example

Support/helpdesk and sales are two fairly different routes. I suggest you think about what you're most interested in and start researching the career, learning some of the skills in those areas, and working on a competitive/convincing application for those

What do you mean by no luck, what have you done that's not come up positively?

Well I have applied to several apprenticeships, neither have contacted me. In interviews the nerves get the best of me in the ones that I had an opportunity which was only one maybe two. And it’s just finding one really. I can’t even find basic IT work experience or an IT Internship even.

I see. If you're struggling to get initial responses I think you first need to work on your written application skills. Lots of schools and universities will still help former students with CV writing and making job applications, and you might even be able to get help with interview practice
