Ooh that’s amazing well done! I’d love to do vet med, still in year 9 so a way off but it’s good to start thinking about it I guess
If you don’t mind me asking what was the application process like for you and which GCSEs/alevels did you do?

Hiii! Thank you so much ☺️ I’m glad you’re thinking of applying for vet med and I’d be more than happy to help
I did All the basics, triple science, Re, German, Polish, Art and Geography for GCSEs and achieved 99999999886
For Alevels I did an EPQ on canine aggression in year 12 and achieved an A* (50/50) as well as Biology, Chemistry and religious studies.
I personally found the application process stressful but very fun because I’m very passionate about vet med. It was definitely difficult because I’m first in my family to go to university and as you might know there is little support for vet med online. It was also quite hard because mocks are in October when the UCAS deadline is. HOWEVER, if this is something you really love I promise it will be more thrilling than you think especially the interviews. (Waiting for a response from the unis was deffo the most stressful 😂)

One thing I would definitely recommend is start to look at some work experience just to get a feel for the profession and start building up your knowledge and stats for your application 💖

Hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask at any time 😁

Hii everyone!! Any longer questions I’ll ask when my day is a little bit less busy because im currently finally on holiday and taking some time off but I promise to respond to everyone eventually and send resources etc. 😭 Im so sorry for the inconvenience!! 😭💖
I’ll try answer questions that are simple if I can but any longer responses (I yap hence they’re usually long) will have to wait a little bit if that’s okay!
Once again I’m so sorry!!

RVC - ABB (contextual)
RVC gateway - CCC
Edinburgh and H&K - AAA
Nottingham - AAB or ABB I can’t quite remember!!

hi I hope you are well, I was just wondering if you could help give me some clarity. I have been trying to get work experience in vet clinics but literally no one will take me on, for now all I have is volunteering at an equestrian farm for 2 weeks and volunteering at RSPCA animal shelter. I am also partaking in the online vet work experience provided by notts uni to try give me some more insight. im just worried this won't be enough

Hiii! That sounds like some good work experience so far! I’d also recommend doing the online work experience organised by vet mentor. If you’re planning to apply to the RVC then unfortunately this will not be enough as they have a 70 hour clinical work experience requirement. Ideally you’d have at least a week at a clinic so my suggestion is to keep trying to email some places even if it means travelling a bit more for it (I know it sucks sm because I barely had any responses too!) if you send me a dm of where ur based I might be able to help out with finding places or recommending places if I’m nearby!
I know finding work experience is tough and usually vet schools are understanding of this but definitely keep trying and don’t give up!!
Hope this is helpful! Let me know if you have any more questions 💖

thank you so much for your reply its given me much more insight - just a quick query. So the place I partake my horse riding lessons has a job come up as a yard assistant as part of the veterinary practice. so my question is if I was to get a job at a vet practice can this be counted as work experience or not? thank you

I think it would be brilliant to gain experience there even if it weren’t counted as work experience officially so definitely hop onto the opportunity. I reckon you could probably ask them to write you a reference stating work experience/volunteering rather than job 😄 hope this helps!

hi, thank you so much for your help. ive managed to find 2 places that have got back to me out of around 50 vets I enquired to. However both of them are asking for a quick meet-up as there is a popular demand for work experience students and so they want to see who would be best fitted. Do you have any tips for this meeting? how I should dress/ what to say?

Hiii! That’s amazing news congratulations! I’ve never had a meeting like this before but I’m assuming this will assess your personality and skills so I’d advice to be super positive and friendly (similing and greeting staff and clients) and beforehand make a list of skills you believe you have and how they would be useful to them. Make sure to also remember any previous experience you’ve done and how that could be beneficial to them as well! In terms of clothing, I’d go for something smart casual so instead of wearing jeans wear something a bit more formal 😆
Hope this is useful but lmk if you have any more questions ☺️ GOODLUCK!!!!

Hii!! My apologies for the late response. How you answer the SAQs is very dependant on what the question is actually asking however I highly recommend focusing on reflection is your answers for example focusing on how something impacted you or what’s skills you saw and how you showed them in your own experience. I also recommend trying to maintain a good balance between showing emotion like enthusiasm but still keeping it professional if that makes sense 😭 I did often try to make links between my experiences and the profession to show my understanding of what being a vet takes and what it’s like! Also once you’ve done your SAQs start preparing for interviews!!!

If you want me to clarify anything or expand on something please don’t be afraid to say! If you have any other questions about this or anything else please feel free to ask 💖

hi,
I'm a bit late for this year but was just wondering - another post on here said 'Some uni’s may advise you can use a gateway as a 5th choice, but UCAS have advised that it cannot be used as a 5th choice -and it’s their decision. However, you can use vet bioscience or animal science etc as a 5th choice.'
how did applying to RVC gateway work? did you do anything special or did UCAS just let you?

Hii! There was no additional rules for applying to gateway when I applied last year - simply added it as my fifth choice and that was it! I had no idea th at they’ve changed it for this year 🥲
