SOAS LLM Reading List

Hello ! I'm about to start an LLM at SOAS (International Law/Human Rights) with no previous Law study experience (from an International Studies background with experience volunteering for an NGO) and was wondering if anyone had any recommended readings to get familiar with legal vocabulary and notions, just so I can get a head start during the summer !

Also, if anyone has any feedback on Law at SOAS or this particular course, would love to hear about your experience and any advice you may have on how to prepare !

Hiya

If you don't get much interaction here, you can always head to Unibuddies where you can speak to students directly. If you select 'LLM (Master of Laws)' under 'Area of Study' you will find a student who is currently studying a general LLM who would be happy to answer all your questions.

Personally as a Law LLB student here at SOAS I have found the course here to be incredible. SOAS specialises in Asia, Africa and the Middle East, focusing on a decolonising perspective. This goes leaps and bounds into looking into law at an international and contextualised perspective. Which is why our undergraduate law school offers modules that aren't found at other universities like Legal Systems of Asia and Africa.

Obviously this is the undergraduate course and not what you are interested in but it's just a little insight to what our Law School is like. I would highly recommend reaching out to our master students on Unibuddies (the link is above).

Hope this helps.
