My driving test is soon, how to calm nerves?

My driving test is soon

My driving test is so soon and I’m nervous. I’m riddled with anxiety and diarrhoea and I can’t help it.
I did a mock test on Saturday and my instructor said it was good, and I’m test ready. I had another lesson today and made a mistake with turning right but other than that, said my driving was good. My next lesson is on Wednesday just before my actual test and my instructor said we will go over the Manourves in the car park, and I said okay.

Since Saturday morning I’ve been having nausea, loss of appetite and diarrhoea and it’s not going until the test is over with. I’ve tried to distract my mind with TV and music but all I’m thinking about is my driving test. I’m constantly looking at TikTok videos and reading people’s experiences of driving - and thinking there is hope for me no matter how many times. This is my second attempt and all I think about is having the chance to actually enjoy summer without having to book any more driving lessons.

Is there something I can do to help calm my nerves? I just know that during work on Monday and Tuesday I will be sat there PANICKING throughout.

You poor thing. Anxiety is not fun and it is real. I am sure that you have been told a little nerves is good, it gives you a little zip and shows that you care but yours is tipping into the unhelpful zone.

Breathing techniques are good: taking a deep breath in through your nose but breathing out through your mouth slowly and for longer (so you expel more of the air out, thus pushing out more carbon dioxide).

Here are some useful NHS links: https://www.nhs.uk/mental-health/self-help/guides-tools-and-activities/breathing-exercises-for-stress/

Perhaps listen to the sound of rain or whatever you find soothing at the same time.

TIPs: DO NOT watch TikTok. If you want to watch something, find a film or sketch show that makes you really laugh out loud.

Take care and best wishes

Don't worry, you'll be fine. Your instructor thinks your ready, otherwise they wouldn't have said to book the test. The odd mistake is not the end of the world, even on the test day.

I felt anxious on the day, best tip I can give is get the anxious energy out. Do press ups, star jumps, some silly stuff like dancing or air guitar. Scream out some positive affirmation, or scream in general or sing your favourite song. Use the excess energy, it will draw the adrenaline down. Whatever you need to do, to get it out. and drink some lucozade, the sugar will help calm your nerves. I saw it in Taken and its true, your body is in a similar state of shock and the sugar will help balance you out and might help with the nausea and diarrhoea too.

Not to manifest it, but also, worse come to worst, if you dont pass you do it again. I think I passed on my 4th or 5th go and once you have your license no one cares.

Have a wee nip of whisky before you step into the test centre.
