Worried About EOY 12 Predicted Grades – How Much Do Resits Matter?

Hi, I’m in Year 12 and I’m really stressed about predicted grades because I’ll be getting them at parents’ evening soon.I’ve done resits for Biology and Chemistry mocks and I’m scared my earlier report grades will still affect my prediction.
In Biology I got a current grade of a C in December, and then dropped to a B in March, but I think I got around 38–42/51 in the resit maybe a B or A.And in Chemistry I got a current grade of a C in both reports,I think my resit was probably 30–38/49 maybe a low B.Psychology however,I'm really confident about because I got a B in the mocks andd didn't have to resit.I’m aiming for ABB to apply to unis like Glasgow, Warwick, and Exeter for biology-related courses. My questions are:h:ow much do resits influence predicted grades?Do teachers ever predict higher than your mock/resit if they’ve seen improvement? And Is it possible to go from a C/D report to a B prediction?
Any advice or experiences would help so much it's makign me stress out so much thank you 💖

Hey!

Please dont stress, also know, your final predicted grades are submitted by your form tutor,

I was predicted officially a D in biology, I spoke with my form tutor and told him. wanted it to be a B, we had a little conversation about y dedication and he changed it for UCAS for me, also my predicted grades (although they claimed were decided at the end of the summer in year 12) were actually decided a after the half term, though this may differ in your school,

Its not the end of the world and it can be changed if you show genuine capability to change yourself, ask to speak to your form tutor or even subject teacher,

Goodluck!

Ok tysm i feel a little less stressed now,but how did ur form tutor manage to change the grade himself, did he work in the same subjects that you were taking or do from tutors just have the power to change ur grade?

He is an English teacher and solely changed my biology grade for me! Tutors handle UCAS and your predicted confirmations/ any letters needed are signed off by them, so in all actuality I submitted the predicted grades myself, and my tutor just confirmed they were accurate to UCAS!

Essentially as your tutor is point of contact and writes your references, they will confirm your predicted or submit them- my biology teacher still predicted a D it was just processed as a B due to this!

ok tysm,I was told by my bio teacher that they can write my reference but I didn't know this before, hopefully I can get a B in my resit, but If not I'll probbably push my teacher,it's just idk how to beg enough to convince them to move the grade😭

potentially explain that your desired course requires a B in biology for acceptance- and detail a revision plan you have for the summer hols etc how much effort youll put in

That is true in your school, where i teach a subject teacher co-ordinates the UCAS ref and all teachers contribute. Subject teachers submit predictions which they are held to account for so no way would we predict a B when Ds were being achieved.

so in my case, even tho my reports have shown a C and D in bio, would I still be able to get a B prediction if when I get my resit back next week I get a B or A in it?or would they predict me lower?

I don't know how they predict in your school. We look at all the evidence and review in October [for non-early people]. There's honestly no point in predicting a grade you have no hope of getting - you'll just end up in clearing. Hardly anyone in my school fails to get their firm ..

Hi there!

I have a degree in Medical Biology and I did Biology, Chemistry and English literature as my A-Levels.

Firstly, schools will inflate your grades to meet the conditions of your degree through the uni website. If the uni wants BBB, your school will inflate your predicted grades to match this. This is so the school look better, so they can say that a higher % of their students got offers from their first choice uni. Obviously, they need to keep this somewhat realistic so they will not award a student achieving straight U's a predicted grade of AAA.

Secondly, schools often mark a lot harsher to push you to do a lot better in the exams - i suspect the grade boundaries used here are a lot higher than what is typically used by exam boards. Schools also take in all your test results and use that for a predicted grades, not just mocks. If they are telling you they are basing it off of mocks, it is to motivate you to do better.

This is just my experience, keep in mind I did my my year 12 mocks in 2019. i hope this helps!
