is it worth going into product design?

hey guys, i just finished my a-levels and im going to uni this year. my firm choice is Design for Sustainable Innovation at Warwick and Im interested in product/industrial design, but im really worried if i should still do it because ive been hearing that ai might replace it and that its a dying field. do you think i should switch to a different degree?

It is possible you may use AI in your work: you design a product but you may use AI to test it for material weaknesses or an efficient way to layout pieces for cutting to reduce waste etc.

Do what you love and you will find a path through. Second guessing what might or might not happen can give you a headache.

AI will be used in most jobs but just how much and in what way is still a work in progress. Warwick have a good Computer Science department, so I would hope your degree will be exploring the use of all types of technology for your subject.
My general feeling about AI is that it's a tool like any other tool - I would anticipate to be expected to use AI as part of your workflow, but people being replaced wholesale by AI is only currently happening at a very small level, generally by people/companies who are more interested in saving money than producing quality products (i.e. probably not places you want to work anyway). AI also cannot produce 3D models with any proficiency (at least, yet).

I would not let this be a deterrent to picking product design.

Hey your probably starting with the course but I was wondering, I meet the A-level grade requirements, have done several relevant super curriculars and even focused my entire EPQ around sustainable design but I dropped one grade on English language. Do you think I still have a shot of getting into this course next year?
