Combined Science VS Triple (GCSE)

Which is easier to get a grade 9 in?

If you’re on double higher there’s less content to learn in comparison to triple award so it might make it easier in that sense.I did triple award for the 2023 exams and I think along with content depending on whether you’re doing combined higher or triple, the people you’re surrounded with will be different and being with triple students might challenge you to get higher grades. This happened with my physics which went from a 5 to an 8. Overall look at the people you’ll be with, look at the extra content for triple and see if you’d be ok learning it and go from there!

Combined, because it’s 2 GCSEs rather than 3. The exception to this would be if you’re really good at one or two sciences but not all 3 because then if you did combined you’d maybe get a 7-7 instead of 984 if that makes sense

Combined as it is less content and you do three less papers than triple science. ( in combined you do one paper for each science and in triple you do two each). However, it is only two gcses rather than three so you might have to choose another gcses instead which can be harder to get a 9 in

Definently combined as you do not have to do well across all 6 papers, if you flopped one paper but then done really well on the others a 99 or 98 is possible.

Hi there,

do I did triple science (in 2018!). With triple, there would be extra topics, but not a lot. So in volume, technically, double science would be easier. As triple counts as another GCSE, despite being only a few extra topics, you can allocate more time to this. If you do double, you will need an extra GCSE to make up for it. I would talk to your teachers to see what option works best!

kind regards, Jenifer (Kingston rep)
