Congratulation on finishing your A level biology and chemistry, that's a great start to pursuing medicine at uni. what specific do you have about studying medicine.

What are your grade expectations, and what are you going to do next.

How do you get good at stats? I did every single as past paper for my mocks but I still only got just above average, I also seem to always run out of time on stats.

Hey it’s a big step up as with all a levels but manageable. Chem didn’t have a lot of content but you really have to understand it well to get an A*. I found it hard to grasp in year 12 but it got better in year 13. It did cause a lot of meltdowns when I first started it but genuinely it gets better after half a year or so.

Sorry but what do you means by “recommend to get for alevels”? Do you mean resources/ books like things to buy?
Maths was my best subject at a level but I did have to put more effort than I did at gcse to do well in it. I just did loads of questions from the textbook then pmt and watched videos on any topics I was stuck on. I didn’t find maths too hard personally. Just take it step by step.

😂 I love this question. Let me honest- a levels were tough. Definitely a lot more breakdowns that gcse. And especially as a med applicant my sixth form life was a bit more stressful due to interviews and UCAT. I personally found UCAT harder than revising for my a levels. I would say UCAT summer was the most stressful part of my sixth form life. But overall I was pretty happy and still maintained a good social life. Just keep on top of work from day 1 and don’t leave revision for mocks till the end. I had revised so consistently that when it came to a level season, all I had to do was go over my notes the night before the exam and I was ready

I hated yr 1 stats especially. I never struggled with timing so not sure I got any advice on that I think it’s just practice. First just see which areas you are struggling on. Then go back to your textbook and start from scratch- look through worked examples then start with some easy questions and gradually build up the difficulty. Look at some online videos to help.

For maths I did buy the cgp book but I never really used it. I think it would be helpful if you do struggle with maths as it breaks stuff down well. Didn’t buy anything else though. I watched Mr Astbury mainly for exam questions and predicted papers- he was super helpful and his tricky exam questions are great if you want that A*

Sorry, it's wrong writing, I mean what specific area do you want to study medicine? Which field.

Surgery is a broad field with many specialties. What specifically about surgery interests you? Are you considering a career in surgery or looking into surgical procedures for a particular reason?

For maths I wish I started watching videos on difficult topics earlier on instead of always relying on textbooks but otherwise I don’t think I could’ve done much else for maths
Bio I wish I used my cgp books a bit more instead of relying on the online textbook as cgp content is very similar to mark schemes. also whilst revising for end of topic questions, usually mark schemes are very repetitive and it’s best to write the mark scheme answer in your notes and revise this.
Chem I wish I understood how important it was not just to know the content but understand the theory. Doing old spec questions also helped quite a bit somehow

Overall though I don’t think I could’ve made any major changes to how I revised over the 2 years and I don’t really regret much that I did.
