University of hull help

I've recently found this uni and it seems great, from the accomodation to the courses they have. It seems like it's much cheaper to live here then other uni's. My only issue is my parents don't really agree with me going there, it's 3 hours away from where I currently live and my dad says it's a highly racist area?? I really wanna move out for uni and be independent but I'm not sure how to convince him. I've yet to attend any open days. Can anyone who's been/lived there in hull help me out lol

Hi there, I came to Hull to study Spanish back in 1997, ended up doing a PGCE and I now have lived in the area for 28 years this coming September. I do not believe that it is a highly racist area, when I was at Uni and during my life living and working in Hull since my Uni days I am friends with people from all around the world. Hull is no more racist that anywhere else in the country, it’s known as the ‘Friendly City’ for a reason. The Uni campus is great, nightlife is rich and varied, loads of international restaurant choices and permanent residents from all over the world, a proper melting pot which is great! If you love the course, the campus and the opportunities Hull can give you, then I’d say ‘go for it’! All the best to you, whatever you decide!
