Hi @rinnnn_

I’m sorry you’re feeling like this. Taking an extra year doesn’t mean you’ve failed; it’s a fresh chance to figure things out and improve. Now that you’ve gone through Year 12, you have the foundations, and you can use everything you’ve learned as motivation to do better moving forward.

Consider speaking to your teachers about swapping maths for something that suits you better, and ask what support is available. Also, if you are still interested in psychology, start looking into universities that offer psychology with lower entry requirements. There are definitely options out there.Try not to compare yourself to others. Everyone’s journey is different, and what matters is how you move forward from here. Hope this helps.

If you really want it badly enough, Year 13 is plenty of time to pull this out of the fire, do some hard work, and still get decent grades next August.

Most schools wont allow to you repeat Yr 13 - they wont get any funding for you - especially if you don't actually use your mock results to wake-up and realise that you have to do more work than you did in Yr 12.

And there are plenty of Psych degrees that dont require A level Maths.

Hi, sorry that you are going through this! Best thing to do is focus on yourself as you are more important. Who cares what your friends are up to everyone goes through things at their own pace. You now know that to have to focus more on maths so try that and trust you will get better!!!

So you are dropping maths but you can still continue if you want in yr 13 and finish it? Don’t your schools have mocks in sep to improve your predicted grades ?

Hi there,

As you are essentially starting year 12 again, have you considered substituting math for another subject? My friend did biology, psychology and drama. Math is no a necessary subject. Please speak to your teachers about your options, and use this as motivation to do well!

If you have any specific questions regarding options, do let me know.

Kind regards, Jenifer (Kingston rep)

In all honesty, as long as you reach the grade requirements and are doing the correct combination accompanied by a good personal statement, you will get into uni. My friend got 4's and below in her GCSEs, did a 3 year business BTEC as she did not want to do year sixth form, and still got into a good uni. It 100% is possible!
