Carers allowance and uc

Hi I'm after some information. I'm due to start uni soon and I've had misleading information regarding carers allowance and uc. I've been told that I need to inform both benefits of me now attending uni but when I called up for advice they said student finance would inform them of the change. Can I have some clarification on this as I do not need to be in a position where I will potentially have an overpayment. Is it worth me just informing both benefits of the change myself so I've covered myself if anything goes wrong.

Hi, have you spoken to student finance England and if so what did they advise? I am in a similar situation. I got some real good advice from SFE but they did tell me to speak to my work coach at the job centre but I am putting it off at the moment as my course is not due to start until January so I don’t feel the need to let them know until I am due to start.

I don’t know for sure the exact answer but if you did inform UC of this change, I would wait until the change occurs or at least until you know when your first student loan payment comes in. From what I was told when I was doing my undergraduate degree, I wasn’t allowed to claim carers allowance. I was a carer for my grandma years before this and had to stop when I went into full time education. Not sure if that’s changed now. X

No I haven't spoken to student finance, I'm just getting conflicting information at the moment. I didn't want to take the maintenance loan but apparently UC will take it a income wether I receive it or not which is really stupid in my opinion. I don't want to cancel my claim for carers allowance yet as I don't know if it will change my entitlement and my course doesn't start yet anyway. I just want to know wether I have to make the change or if sfe will send the information over themselves
