ppe vs law

Both Law and PPE are highly 'employable' degrees - in a very wide range of career areas.
Just remember that you can study Law as a postgrad with a degree in any other subject - and that many postgrad degrees are also accessible with a Law degree - so whatever decision you make now does not close off alternative choices later.

I recommend going to as many Open Days as you can, and listening to subject presentations for both courses. Unless you are applying to Oxbridge, you have until next January to make your final choices and submit your UCAS application. Take your time to think about this, and consider all options - including other joint subject courses like Law and Politics, Economics and Philosophy etc

hi,
I'm currently deciding between applying for law or philosophy, politics and economics (PPE) at university (preferably Russell Group unis)
i'm not 100% sure I want to become a solicitor or barrister, but I do like the structure of a law degree and the fact that it gives me lots of career options. PPE seems broader and more flexible, but ive heard mixed things about employability and the degree losing its value outside of oxford, as well as some people seeing it as a "soft" degree.
has anyone here studied either degree or considered both? which one opens more doors? which is more interesting? is ppe seen as less serious or employable than law (especially considering the fact that i do not want to go to oxford)?
thank you!!!

PPE

Suggested unis (depending on your grades):
Oxford
southampton
Manchester
Durham
Nottingham

I studied law but considered PPE.

If you will be more interested in PPE, I would recommend studying it for your undergrad. You can always do the GDL and apply for it to be funded by a firm or one of the Inns of Court. PPE on its own (if you change your mind on law) is also highly employable, even outside of Oxford. You will not have difficulty switching from PPE to law. If you go straight into law, you strip yourself of the potential to experience PPE.

Things worked out ultimately, but I sometimes have a yet-scratched itch for the politics and philosophy parts of PPE. Consider which one you will enjoy more in the near future. Doing well on your degree trumps everything. The more you will enjoy yourself, the better you will do. PPE will not lose its value outside of Oxford if you do very well.

Doing PPE and the GDL will open the most doors. Particularly at the Bar, there has been a growing trend towards career changers/people without an LLB being successful in entering the profession. With both degrees, you have options in both sectors.
