did anyone got into Warwick economics not getting the required grades?

My daughters conditional offers for Economics at Warwick university are A* A* A, but She might get A* A* B. Any chance of getting into the UNI with these grades?

I’d say there’s a small chance. It depends on certain other factors like her personal statement. According to the UCAS website, 71% of students with grades A*AA got in to that course, so I’d say A*A*B is maybe around 50% or less, but there is a chance as long as she has an A or above in maths, and the B isn’t in an economics-related subject.

Thanks for your reply. She is expecting A* in Maths and Economics and may be high B in Psychology.

Hi there,

Congratulations to your daughter on securing an offer from Warwick for Economics! That’s already a fantastic achievement.

Warwick’s Economics course is highly competitive as you may be aware, so the standard offer of A* A* A is usually held quite firmly. However, every year a small number of applicants who narrowly miss their offer do still get accepted, depending on a few key factors like how many people met their offers that year, how strong the rest of the application is, and whether there’s any flexibility in the department’s final intake numbers.

If your daughter ends up with A* A* B, it wouldn’t guarantee her place, but she may still be in with a chance, especially if the B is in a less central subject (for example, Psychology). If that’s the case, and the rest of her application was strong, it’s definitely worth holding out hope. It would be helpful to call the admissions team at Warwick to see if she would still be admitted, as there is always a chance.

As an Economics student at Warwick myself, I’ve seen how the department takes a well-rounded view when finalising places. They genuinely look at the whole application, and if she just misses out by one grade, particularly in a non-core subject, it’s not necessarily a closed door. I’d definitely recommend staying positive and being prepared for results day Warwick is a brilliant place to study Economics, and I really hope things work out for her!

Wishing you both all the best!

Thank you so much for your explanation. She has TMUA 3.3, I am not sure if that helps. Hopefully she might get the required grades.
