Boyfriend and his ex are going back and forth ?
My man of 6 months is going back and forth with his ex fling of a year ago. I found these messages on his phone because my gut was telling me to check. Messages were of him telling his ex how he doesn’t like how she acts, how she wasn’t special to him etc. Basically texts of them hitting low blows with each other. Keep In mind this relationship lasted on 3 months and ended a year ago. He was the first man she ever slept with, he claims that he doesn’t care for her. Yet why respond when she sends a text ? She sent her number over to him and told him to call her, and I seen the call log and he ended up calling her smh …….

I don't think you can make any sustainable argument that he cares for her when he's sending messages like that to her. The issue here isn't whether he still has feelings for her. The issue is why he's engaging with her at all. The answer is probably that this is a misguided attempt on his part to address these issues and put this to bed (so to speak). In reality the better way to handle this is to cut ties with her, and if you want to approach this issue with him I'd do it from that perspective. If you do that you will also have to explain why it is you've been reading his messages, though. I don't know to what extent you actually asked him about any of this before you checked his phone, but unless he's lied to you about messaging her entirely, you've pretty flagrantly breached his privacy by checking his phone, and I expect many people would think that that's a bigger issue than him messaging his ex.

My usual standpoint applies, if you trust the other person that little that you are rummaging through their phone, the relationship is already on very shaky ground.

Yeah as above, going through someones phone is considerably worse then arguing with your ex. One of them is questionable, the other is an instant dumping offence and basically illegal.
