Should I consider Norwich Uni of the Arts

I am visiting univerities with the intention to study Filmaking and although I was really impressed by the Norwich University of the Arts showreel the school isn't rated highly on the Guardians University list

Should I still consider the school?
League tables are often ineffective for creative courses. Even if you're looking at a league table that is supposedly ranking your course specifically, it's often sampling data based on the outcomes from their highest subscribed and performing courses which may not have anything to do with the course you want to do specifically and might not be reflective. Using industry-standard accreditation, like ScreenSkills, is often a better metric as it means the content has been reviewed by people who currently work in industry and they vouch for the quality of the course.

*obviously this doesn't apply for more academic courses where rankings are more reflective. If you want to study something like History, looking at league table rankings is still valuable. But for Art & Design or Media courses, it's better to take it with a grain of salt - they are geared to measure academic outcomes, not creative ones.

If you liked the look of Norwich, don't exclude it based on league table results. Good luck

If you want to work in film you can also do an apprenticeship.

Hello,
It's great that you are interested in studying a creative course like film studies, at UAL we offer different types of film focused degrees which I will link below. When it comes to choosing a creative university, the ranking is something to consider, but you should also focus on how the course will benefit you and what you want to get out of it at the end. Attending open days is a great way to get a better understanding asking questions in person - we also have some open days so make sure to look out for that!

Hi there!
Thank you so much for considering us and and we're glad that you enjoyed the showreel!

Did you know that you can find out plenty more information regarding the subjects you're looking at via our website? Info includes course content, future career paths after uni, how assessments work and also the uni alumni work. You can find all of this here: https://norwichuni.ac.uk/ and here: Our Courses.

We have a few open days coming up in September in October - which are a great way to meet our course leaders and get to know our campus, as well as scope out the facilities and ask whichever questions you may have. Open day information can be found here: Norwich Uni Arts Open Days

Alternatively, you can also request a prospectus for free here: Norwich Uni Arts prospectus.

I hope this helps, and please let me know if you have any further questions!

Charlotte, Student Ambassador at Norwich Uni Arts 🙂
