A-Level Tips

I finished my GCSEs recently, and I am about to start learning for my A-Levels next year. My choices are Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry, and Physics. Is there any tips for Y12 for these subjects specifically or in general?

for chemistry do exam questions immediately after you learn something, like get through all the topic questions before you have a test then do them again.

Is the jump between GCSE Chemistry and A-Level Chemistry big? I personally believe that GCSE Chem is not that bad, compared to what some say, but I am interested in this jump.

tbh at the beginning it wasn't bad but at like January at my year 12 mock I got a D, and in GCSE's I got a 9, I don't think the jump is big if you just do the exam questions bc flashcards and a few questions was all I did at GCSE but it clearly doesn't work for A - Level

Hiiii, that sounds like a great combination I hope they go well for you

For chemistry it’s super repetitive so when you start revising for mocks and the real thing or even those little end of topic tests do loads of past paper questions and it will be second nature by the a level exam. I wish I started this in year 12

When I did maths, I used to practice the maths as we went along with questions on each topic. This was useful but I wish I had done more actual past papers, even doing AS papers would be good in year 12. This is because you need to get used to recognising the actual format and working out what topic the question is from. Because I wasn’t used to this, I was extremely slow and it was hard to finish in 2 hours even though I am good at maths. 100% wish I’d done past papers.

As long as you keep up with the content and make flashcards throughout the year, you wont get overwhelmed with chemistry ( or physics I’m guessing ) and it wont feel like such a massive jump from GCSEs. Just don’t let workload build up.

Good luck!
