History A Level

I plan on taking History A Level in September so any suggestions of how to prepare myself for the classes in September and how to revise would be appreciated. Any other tips are of course also welcomed! Good luck to everyone on results day!

Start revision materials / revision in general early, you blink and suddenly there's a pile of content to look over. I also personally loved the timelines I created as it made checking my dates really easy

Some techniques

Blurting

Spaced Repetition

Pomodoro Technique

Revision cards sorted by topic covering key dates and statistics

summarise a whole topic into a mind map - generally an A3 size paper works best

plan random past questions both question and source - maybe have a teacher review them

solidify your timings when writing

try explaining a topic to another non-history person and quiz them to see gaps in your explanations to improve exam writing

look for any online revision guide materials available (websites, videos, digital summaries etc.) and see if your school library has textbooks/ revision guides to hand for you to borrow

study with others studying the same topics to quiz each other and have a combined set of knowledge if you ever get stuck or confused at any point

it may also be good to ask your teacher for any recommendations around revision

Hope this helps

Thank you so much! I’ll definitely try these out as I’ve always gotten an 8/9 in GCSE History tests and mocks but never knew how to revise as I would just read the content and get an understanding of the event but nothing really active. For A level I want to find an effective method so I’m not relying on surface level knowledge.

organisation is definitely something that’s important for history. i like to keep my notes organised in topic and label them so i can look through my file and know exactly what i need to get out of my file. very content heavy but im sure you’ll love it
