LGBTQ+ Current Student here! AMA

Hi, I am a queer to be 3rd year at the University. I am also not a student rep, so I can give a unbiased opinion at my time in the university and the things present here.

Ask any questions and ill do my best to answer them!

Hi, yes I did so. Personally I didn't have the best time, but that was pure coincidence and I couldn't be bothered to move 😀 .

Everyone was queer and by chance mostly trans!

Most people have had great experiences though, and become close friends with them, I think its a great thing and ill be working with residence life team in Endcliffe and Ranmoor to provide more stuff next year.

Asking anonymously because I don't want to out myself on TSR, but do you know how trans-friendly (towards trans guys) uni sport is? Not any crazy stuff, just casual-ish sports. Similarly, if you're going away on camps where things are gender-segregated, do the trans people you know get accommodated based on their gender (or do they get forced into things with their assigned sex at birth)? This isn't specific to Sheffield, but idk any trans people at uni (so am lowkey terrified).

Apologies bro, I should have clarified, I'm not going to Sheffield. I was just asking in general for UK unis. Hope you have a brilliant time at Sheffield.

Hi! Yes i would recommend it. Worst case scenario, people in all unis drop out after the first few weeks and rooms do tend to free up, so if you really hated it, which i doubt, you could always move if you contact residence life.

Hi, if your not referring to Sheffield specifically, i can't give any details, however university spaces tend to be relatively queer friendly. Sports groups tend to be formed of a smaller group of people however, so I guess its kind of random. Despite the political turmoil at the moment, you should be able to get support in most universities if you feel you are discriminated in any way. Don't let anything scare you from doing what you enjoy!
