Are you, or did you consider, applying to a Scottish University?

Poll

Are you, or did you consider, applying to a Scottish University? What was most important to you?

Choosing where to go to university is a big deal, and rightly so - it's where you'll be living for the next few years at least, so it needs to be a place you'll feel comfortable and happy.

So, if you are looking at universities now or have previously been on the hunt for your dream uni, did you or have you ever considered a Scottish university?

If so, what was it about any Scottish universities on your shortlist that drew you to consider applying, or indeed apply to?

Was it the city, with some iconic universities based in cities such as Edinburgh and Glasgow on offer? Did the course pique your interest, with some amazing degree courses on offer that suited your needs?

Was it the culture, with a selection of Scottish universities being some of the most prestigious in the country? Was it the distance from family and friends that clinched it for you (both being close or being far away!)

Or was it because you are Scottish and applying for Scottish universities means you don't have to pay for tuition fees?

We'd love to hear your thoughts on why you applied or are considering applying to a Scottish university!

I haven’t considered any Scottish unis because its too far away from where i would ideally be for uni

i applied to edinburgh uni! i’ve always loved the idea of living in scotland (i’m in southern england) and i really wanted to be more independent from my family, so the distance was a good thing for me. also, the maths course there looked really interesting, as you can take a minor course alongside the maths for the first couple of years. the reason i rejected my offer was finance, it’s really expensive to live in edinburgh and the maths course is a year longer than most other unis so sadly i decided it wouldn’t be feasible for me

In the process of applying to Aberdeen for MSc Information Technology with Cybersecurity. I'm from Northern England, so the prospect isn't super scary. I'm actually more concerned about attending a London university. I love Scotland, have visited Aberdeen before, but only really care about the course content and how competitive future employers will think the degree.

I'm from NE England and thought about Edinburgh (and Aberdeen a little bit) as I love the city and its got a good course however they stopped direct entry into second year I don't want several extra thousand pounds of debt :frown:

I'm half Scottish and most of my family have/do live in Scotland, something I've always been jealous of, soo most of my university choices were scottish! 😗

I really like the idea of having distance from my immediate family (we live in Kent), but Scotland is just so pretty and I loved my visits up there. Ended up firming Uni of Glas as the course is really good for me, it's well known towards employers, beautiful, and the history tied with it is amazing. Second choice was Aberdeen :]

Hello!

Thank you for your poll!

Choosing what university to go to is a touch challenge, and different people will seek out different attributes of the city in which the university is, or the university itself!

However, there are many things which can make this decision easier. Talking with current students at the university, looking at street view of the city, watch videos on what the city has to offer, read through the modules list of your desired course, look up the university on social media, visit an open day!

Also, feel free to contact enquiries for any specific questions.

Hope you find the university which best suits you!
Kind regards,
Maria, PG Student Rep,
