Likelihood of Deferred Entry into UWE Bristol?

Hello! I am an international student (Canada) who just got an offer for an MA course at Bristol. I really want to go but I sadly have suffered a great deal of physical and mental ailments over the past year. It has completely wrecked me and after a discussion with my parents, they too want me to take some time to heal personally.

I did state these circumstances while I was applying, so they are aware. I also have medical proof. I have read on their website that they normally don't give deferrals for postgrad unless there are extenuating circumstances, in which they will review individually. I have already sent a request for deferral as I would like to receive an answer as soon as possible.

How likely is it for a deferral? Does anyone from UWE, applicant or student, have any experience with the deferral process? I know I've already submitted but I am anxious as, if not for the circumstances, I would've really liked to go this year.

OK University of the West of England is not the same as Bristol University. I assume that as you are coming from Canada you will be paying international student fees?

I don't know how the universities work in Canada but in the UK university degrees are not standardised so some have more content than others and the degrees are a higher educational standard in some universities than others. Bristol university is much higher ranked than UWE. I am just putting this here because of your health circumstances and the fact that your fees are likely to be higher than people pay in the UK.

It might be better to withdraw from UWE rather than defer and then wait until your health is much better and see if you still want to study in the UK now that you know that not all the degrees are the same standard.

Yes, I know the two aren't the same sorry, I thought saying Bristol and UWE in the same post was OK lol!

I am studying animation which technically doesn't even really need a degree. I do understand international fees as I am currently graduating as an international student in France, where my degree lost its accreditation so, I am used to the idea of not all degrees being at the same level. Also, differences in teaching styles and curriculum doesn't mean that UK degrees aren't standardized. If you get the same degree at the end, then it is standardized as in it teaches you enough to award that degree. That is similar to Canada and most other university-having countries around the world.

I am excited for UWE because in terms of animation, I hear its very good in the course and for connections. They told me I would get a Masters of Arts at the end, so I'm not too worried about this standard you refer to. My question is purely just if getting a deferral is a reasonable request, especially considering health circumstances.

It teaches you enough to reach that degree at that university. It may not teach you enough for you to be awarded a degree at a better university. Degrees in the UK are awarded by the university what will get you a degree at one university may not be enough for you to start a degree at a higher standard university.

The only way you can find out about a deferral is to ask the university.

What makes you think that an Oxford degree is the same standard as one from UWE?

Yes, an Oxford degree is regarded as more prestigious than one from UWE but not all of us need/want to go to Oxford do we :0). UWE is a good school for the course I want to study. It is highly regarded in the animation sphere. Oxford has nothing to do with the course I wanna study.

I have the impression you didn't even read my response to you. Frankly, you have come off condescending, asking if I understand basic facts about universities, like paying higher fees or understanding that some universities are considered more prestigious than others. University rankings and international fees are something that is worldwide, not just UK and, it's insulting to me that you assume I would apply to a masters in the UK without even understanding those basic facts. It is even more insulting to advise me to reject my offer "now that I know the degrees aren't the same".

Frankly, I don't wish to continue this, I checked your post history and despite joining recently, you seem to enjoy having spats and instigating arguments on posts where you really don't need to. You have no right to know why I chose the course I did at the school I did, especially since my original question did not pertain to the accreditation of the degree but rather asking about my chances of deferral. If you do not have anything to say about UWE admissions and deferral process then I will kindly invite you to leave this post be :0)
