Am I being selfish

So basically I've firmed a uni but my parents really so not like where it is and the course I'm doing. They are now saying because of me we can't go anywhere (e.g go on holiday during my parents limited time off) also my brother is calling me selfish and saying to choose my local university.
Am I being selfish? I really don't know what to do. I really like my course and I've visited the uni recently and I think i would enjoy living there and it's just me being nervous and my parents opinions which is making me think I've chosen the wrong place.

All universities basically have the same term times, so why would going to a non-local university mean you can't go on holiday with your family?

Choosing a uni you want to go to for 3-4 years isn’t selfish.

Forcing a family member to compromised that decision for the sake of holidays most certainly is.

DO NOT pick a course or a university based on other people's insistence. It won't work out well. Are you happy with your decision?

You are absolutely not being selfish. It really shouldn't matter that they think about the uni or course since they're not the ones going. And your education is far more important than some holidays you theoretically may or may not go on.

You must stick to your choice. How does where you go affect their holidays? It's nonsense.

It's YOUR degree - not theirs.

You are being selfish. It's one of those times when being selfish is the right thing to do. And where being unselfish would be a HUGE mistake.

Moving out from the parental home and going to the best uni and course combination that your A levels allow you to get into is absolutely the right thing to do. So much so that any alternative uni arrangement isn't worth seriously considering. Regardless of the pressures on you.

Your uni is an investment of 3 years of your time and about £60,000 of your money. That's such a huge investment that you owe it to yourself to get the best return on that investment that you can.
Going to a watered down uni, or doing a course that's not for you, or living in the parental home would be such a waste of your time and money. When you could have had something better.

No successful business would invest in something when there's a clearly better alternative for the same time and money cost. And neither should you. When the investment is of this size.

Tell your family they can go on holiday without you. In the meantime earn as much money as you can over the summer. Ideally by starting a business. Or at worst flipping burgers at McD's.
