Academic Regulations query (BCU)

Hi All,

The 2024/2025 Academic Regulations introduced a new degree classification method that is calculated according to the grand mean of 100 credits at stage 2 and 100 credits at stage 3, based on a ratio of 40:60 for new and continuing students (who were subject to 2023/2024 academic regulations).

This leaves me confused as I do not know if this new method of degree classification applies to me as someone who had to repeat several modules from third year this academic year (I started 2021). I don’t know if I would qualify as continuing student.

Hi @Ty_ae1

I am not sure of the exact answer to your question myself, but I will try and find out for you from the relevant team at BCU.

I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Hi Emily,

I’ve been stressing over this for past few days now as the new degree classification method would put me on the 2:1/2:2 boundary with 58.92% (I heard the final degree weighted mark would be rounded to nearest whole number which is 59 in my case) where as the old degree classification would have leave me with a 2:2, not bad per say but not a grade I would be of proud considering I would’ve gotten that grade anyway if I had sat the capped winter resits and wouldn’t have to go through the process of applying for student finance again.

I’d rather know sooner than later so I’d know what to expect when they release my final grade/degreee classification.

Thank you for your help.

Hi @Ty_ae1

I completely understand. I have sent a message to the relevant team to try and find out for you and I will update in this thread when I have a reply.

Like you say, none of your possible grades are 'bad', so try to stay positive while you're waiting for your final grade - I had mine back this week so I know the feeling of having to wait!

Emily 🙂

Hi @Ty_ae1

Sorry to hear you're feeling stressed about this! As Emily said, it's not something we have all the information about so I'd recommend chatting to your tutors or personal tutor about your concerns or contacting your faculty student centre, they should have more information about this

Best of luck!
Abbie

Thank you for the replies, it turns out that the current regulations do apply to me as my grades got released today and I got a 2:1
