Degree apprenticeships

I achieved a distinction in BTEC Business and a B in a level Maths and economics and im also taking a gap year to build work experience. I'm worried as to whether or not these grades are good enough for a degree apprenticeship

Look at the requirements for the specific apprenticeships you are applying for -

Hi @JKboz,

Congratulations on your brilliant results! 🎉 I hope you're really pleased - all your hard work has clearly paid off!

Taking a year out to build work experience sounds like a great idea. Not only will it help strengthen your future applications, but it’s also a great opportunity to reflect on what kind of degree apprenticeship might be the right fit for you.

Different apprenticeships do have different entry requirements, so it’s worth thinking about which areas interest you most and then working backwards to see what qualifications or experience you might need. The UCAS apprenticeship search tool is a great place to start - it lists a wide range of current apprenticeship opportunities across different sectors.

Wishing you the best of luck with your gap year and future plans. What appreciations are you currently considering?

Best wishes,

Hey there,

Your grades are strong for degree apprenticeships, and adding a gap year of work experience will make your application even stronger. Employers look for skills and motivation as much as grades, so highlight your achievements and transferable skills. I’d also suggest checking our website for apprenticeship opportunities at LSBU to see what’s available https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/study/apprenticeships

Do keep an eye on our website as our October Open Day will be live soon and it’s a great chance to visit the campus, meet lecturers, and explore your course options.

Bro your chilling for most apprenticeships theres very few that require an A or above. Just be prepared to work hard to get one as their extremely competitive, I managed to secure an D*D*D* In BTEC Level 3 extended diploma in Business and spent 6 months applying and secured a level 3, 18 month one which recently ended in Dec 2024 and I secured a level 6 social researching apprenticeship after 6-7 months of applying which I start in September 2025. I've easily applied to 100s and 100s of apprenticeships and probably 50 degree ones.

My best advice is to not spam apply which I would admit I did before securing the level 3 apprenticeship, instead take your time with each application even though it's very time consuming. I've spent easily hundreds of hours, preparing for online tests, interview, improving applications, improving my CV etc etc. I think your in a strong spot though and hopefully you secure an apprenticeship.

Feel free to reach out if you need any help or you have any questions.
