Law university options help

I currently have 4 out of 5 uni options chosen for law, but have no idea what to choose for the 4th. What I have currently is:
1. Cambridge
2. KCL
3. Exeter
4. X
5. Royal Holloway.
I need ideas for a university that is still pretty good/better than Royal Holloway, but not as difficult to get into as the top 3, as it's going to be one of my backups. Grades dont matter to me, since I'm already predicted A*A*A, I'd just like some suggestions for me to look into myself. Preferably I'd like it to be in/near London, but Im not too picky so long as it's a uni that fits between the standards of Exeter and Royal.

Queen Mary or SOAS might be a good choice

I'm applying to University of Brighton for Law. I looked at the course and it's pretty interesting, you may want to look into it.

Hi,

Those are great options and you have amazing predicted grades so wishing you the best of luck!

In terms of a fourth strong option, I would definitely have a look into SOAS as it offers a strong law degree programme. We are based in central London so it ticks your location preference and is known for its international outlook and expertise in areas like human rights and international law. If you're interested in law with a global and social justice focus then SOAS might be the perfect fit for you. As well as teaching the core components of law, SOAS also runs modules focusing on law in the Middle East, Asia and Africa, which is unique amongst UK universities so it is definitely something to look into.

Here are two super interesting blogs written by SOAS Law students who share their experiences with the course - https://www.soas.ac.uk/about/blogs/why-i-chose-study-ma-human-rights-law-soas
https://www.soas.ac.uk/about/blogs/careers-studying-soas-had-massive-impact-my-career-lawyer-dubai

Other options you can look into are Queen Mary or University of Surrey. Both have good reputations for law and may offer the balance you're looking for between a good and realistic backup.

Best of luck with your choices!

Hi there! 👋

It’s great to see Royal Holloway on your UCAS list - and with top choices like Cambridge, KCL and Exeter, you're clearly aiming high! 🚀 Since you're looking for a strong backup option that’s still respected but not quite as competitive, Royal Holloway could be a really smart choice - here’s why:

⚖️ Why Law at Royal Holloway?

Our Law School is part of the School of Law and Social Sciences, with a strong focus on contemporary legal issues, human rights, and international law.

Modules include everything from Contract, Tort and Public Law to Criminal Justice, Jurisprudence, and Technology Law - giving you both academic depth and practical relevance.

We have close ties with the legal sector, and students benefit from events, guest speakers and links with barristers and solicitors through our Mooting and Legal Advice Centre.

🎓 Academically Respected, Realistically Accessible

Entry requirements for LLB are typically AAB - so it works perfectly as a more secure fifth option for someone predicted AAA.

Our law students consistently praise the quality of teaching, feedback and pastoral support.

🌳 Campus & Community

Royal Holloway offers a beautiful and unique campus environment that’s just 40 minutes by train to central London, so you get the best of both worlds - green space and city access.

There’s a strong student law society, regular networking events, mooting competitions and career support to help you build your CV while you study.

💬 You can chat directly with a current Law student here - they’d be happy to share their experience and answer anything from workload to accommodation or social life! 🗣️

Wishing you the best of luck with all your uni choices! 😊

Best wishes,
Royal Holloway, University of London rep 🏰

Hello!

It may be worth considering the University of Leicester, which is about a 1 hour and 10 minute train ride from Kings Cross Station! It is definitely worth having a look into the Law LLB (https://le.ac.uk/courses/law-llb/2025), however, in the meantime I will tell you my three favourite aspects!

All of the compulsory modules take place in first and second year, and then third year is formed of entirely optional modules. I quite like this as I was not too sure what area of law I wanted to go into in first year, however, by the time I realised, I was able to personalise my third year modules to my interest.

There is a very active law society - the second largest in the UK! Leicester University Law Society organise regular career events for aspiring solicitors, barristers and those seeking alternative career paths! They also organise different competitions for students to take part in (Mooting, Negotiations, Client Interviewing and Mock Trials) with work experience as the prize. The Annual Law Ball is also a very popular social event!

Leicester Legal Advice Clinic is a fantastic way to gain experience. This involves students providing free legal advice to members of the public under the supervision of a solicitor. This involves several different areas of law - family law, business law, immigration law, employment law.

Please let me know if you have any questions about studying law at the University of Leicester!

Hi Annecrepin

It's great to see University of Exeter on your list. Please do reach out if you have any questions about the Law courses we offer. Checkout our Law subject page. You can get in touch directly with our enquiries team, watch videos about the courses and our Ask a current student feature is really popular.

Bearing in mind the UCAS equal consideration deadline for 2026 you do have a good amount of time to make up your mind and that also means opportunities to visit universities (and where they are located) to find out more about them and see if they are right for you.

We have open days in October and these are usually based around the subject talks you book to attend but then you also can visit our academic and services information fairs, attend general talks like 'student life' and take a campus tour and accomodation tour. Before then you can explore our Online Open Days webpages.

Good luck for your research and we hope you find a course to study that really suits you.

I see that no progress has been made in requiring paid university reps to declare that they are paid for plugging their universities.
