Advice for teens who seek experiences but are too scared to get ones at school

So, basically im a year 9 girl and i always want to have experiences in summer schools, youth summit, and such. But i just seem to unable to get one. I have done many competitions which allowed me to earn some partial scholarships for a program but its still not quite enough to cover the price for summer schools like what i want. Any advice? I don't even know what im talking about but I'm completely lost of what i want or need to do rn.

Hi @qorrieaina ,

It's great you want to go to summer school to have new experiences!

Have you tried talking with teachers or career advisors at your school? They may be able to advice programs you previously haven't heard of. It's also important to take into account some summer school programs will already be closed for applicants, but it's worth looking next year! For example the imperial college of London runs summer schools fully funded by the college, but you must apply early.

If your looking more for fun experiences over academic, check out summer camps and youth clubs. You may find many are affordable or government funded.

If your purely focused on academic, as you get older there are plenty of programs to choose from. Especially the university pathways or Sutton trust summer schools which are open to year 12s.

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions,
-Sophia (University of Central Lancashire)
