Psychology interviews

I’m starting year 13 this year and want to start to prepare myself for all the interviews for uni. My main unis that I’ll be applying for is Keele, Aston and Birmingham city.

Does anyone have any tips for what to expect?? Or the type of questions they’ll ask?? I’ll be applying for psychology btw

Hi @ebony_007 ,

That’s great to hear you’re starting to think about applying for university. Most universities don’t ask for an interview for psychology so double check with the specific universities. For most psychology courses the personal statement is your chance to show why they should accept you on to the course. Make sure to include everything you want the universities to know about you and why you should be on the course as it is often your main chance to share information about yourself.

Hope this helps and good luck with your applications.

Hi @ebony_0067👋

Interviews provide you with an opportunity to👇

🧑*🏫Meet the teaching staff of a university.
📚️Share your passion for a subject area.
🤩Communicate your motivation for studying the subject.
🗣️Engage in conversation about the subject you love!
❓️Ask any questions you have.
💡Gain tips to prepare you for your chosen course.

It will help you to determine whether the course or university is a right fit for you and if it supports your future goals✅

At the interview, be yourself, share your passion and enthusiasm for your chosen subject area, communicate your future aspirations, and ask any questions you have.

Good luck with any interviews you attend. I wish you every success! 🌟

I'm at keele uni and no interview was needed to take psychology. Just show you passion for it in your personal statement and you should be good

Hi @ebony_007

Great to hear you're applying to BCU! You won't need to interview for Psychology, you'll need to write a personal statement for this course, which will be your chance to show tutors why you're a great fit for the course

You can find lots of personal statement advice on our website, plus download our free personal statement guide, which includes examples from BCU students to inspire you

Here are some dos and don'ts for personal statements:
Do play to your strengths! Remember that you want to stand out from the crowd, so ensure you play on your key strengths and achievements.
Do write an original personal statement - the Admissions Tutors and or/academics want an insight into the person who has written the statement.
Do make yourself stand out! Show personality and enthusiasm alongside examples of your passions and interests outside of school/college such as volunteering.
Do use concrete examples from your life experience to support your accomplishments and distinguish yourself from other applicants this makes your essay more memorable.

Don't make unsupported claims. 'I am the best student you will see all year' doesn't go down too well, even if you think you can prove it!
Don't copy someone else's UCAS personal statement or use something you have found on the internet. UCAS use software to check every personal statement for plagiarism.
Don’t think of it as a list ‘I am experienced. I am studious. I am intelligent. I just choose to write every sentence like this…’ Don’t feel confined to list everything you have ever done, similarly, don’t feel restricted to start every sentence with ‘I’.

Please let us know if you have any questions about Psychology, BCU or your personal statement and we'd be happy to help!
