Failed my year 12 end of year exams

I haven’t gotten my results yet but I know for certain that I’ve failed my year 12 mocks . I’ve failed all the previous ones (EED and EDD respectively ) . I’m considering retaking year 12 but that’s insanely embarrassing but the only other option is retaking the exam during the summer and I don’t think I’ll get good enough to get a C . What do I do ?

Retaking a year is not considered a failure and tbh, outside of sixth form, no one will know so don’t panic about it.

I retook my A Levels TWICE and even then, still failed them miserably (only passing mark was a D in biology) but was allowed onto an access course (Foundation Year) which allowed me to graduate with a 2.1 in Biomedical Science.

Went back five years later to get my Masters too (same field and full time) having worked for a few years in a hospital and graduated last November with a merit.

Don’t think of it as a failure but a learning curve. In the end, there are MANY, MANY different ways to get what you want, you just need to be patient!

Wishing you the best!

EDIT:
I am now working in the specialist section of a diagnostic clinical biochemistry lab, having secured a new job 3 months after graduating from my Masters.

So don’t worry about what has happened as there are ways of getting what you want!

So, long story short, wait and see what your results are and then see what you can do.

What is it you want to do anyway, people in the field you want to work in can give you a hand!

A levels are not for everyone and here are plenty of other options out there :
Local college courses like BTECs etc - example
- Courses for 16-18 Year Olds | Barnet and Southgate College
or
Search apprenticeship Find an apprenticeship GOV.UK
Royal Navy | Joining options
etc

Good morning,

in all honesty I would recommend repeating the year. With grades this low, and depending on the uni's you want to go to, your predicted grades will be quite low - which can reduce your uni offers. It is not considered failure to retake your A-Levels, you would rather set yourself up as best as you can to get the best possible uni offers now than go into year 13, with low ball offers from uni's that you may/may not want to go to. It is not considered embarrassing at all - the people that did retake, set themselves up for the best possible future. Those that did not, ended up insanely stressed and scraping by, or did not end up doing too good - from what I have seen anyway!

kind regards, Jenifer (kingston rep)

I failed a few subjects in Year 12 too, and honestly thought it was the end of the world at the time. But I took it as a reset—worked on my study habits, focused on understanding rather than cramming, and came back stronger in Year 13. One set of exams doesn’t define you. What matters is how you respond now.
