MSc Psychology of Mental Health and Wellbeing (online) Uni of Wolverhampton

Hello folks,

I have decided at my grand old age to go back to university...again! Though there has been a fair distance between studying. I am really interested in the above course, though a bit more cautious as it's online and concerned about the student support available. If I need help, to ask a few questions, are there academics on hand to ask? I have done an online course at university previously, and it was very well laid out, and my professor was always on hand for phone, video, or even in person meetings.

Are you enjoying the course, and have you found it beneficial so far? One thing at my previous university, every book on our book list and beyond, was available online to download and read. This is what they do at OU, does Wolves do this for the course? That is quite a big concern for me as I would like to know I have access to books without having to buy too many, a few I don't mind. Is there a lot of participation on the forums? There wasn't on my previous course. Also, how long are the lectures? Sheffield Hallam stated lectures are only 10 mins so small chunks, is this the same at Wolves?

I'm making an application to hopefully gain a place January 2026 😊

Absolutely horrendous, as you might know because I believe you're in another forum discussing the same thing. Out of a sense of human decency, I'd like to warn everyone against going to Wolverhampton.

To answer some of your questions, the required readings are sometimes available for download but, not always. However, I've never been charged any additional fees for books although, I tend to ignore them if I can't access them online. I've had pretty good luck with being able to download nearly all of the articles though.

The lectures are very short, I would say 5 to 10 minutes. Sometimes they're multiple so, manageable chunks.

The say they offer tutor assistance but it's straight up false advertising until you read the fine print or, in my case, find out after enrolling. It's strictly 'pastoral assistance,' they're not aloud to offer any academic assistance so, useless. They're not even aloud to give examples in most cases although I've seen some instructors do it anyways.

The instructors have been pretty great, in my experience although the marking is horrendous as, they don't seem to follow their own criteria and there is no oversight so however the marker is feeling that day will determine your grade. There's a lot about this in other forums too.

I hope this helps! Sheffield Hallam sounds like an interesting choice although, are they BPS accredited yet? I know they applied.

Thanks for your response!! This has mw worried now, I don't understand why they can't help? I've done a Postgrad online and the professor was very helpful, there were no rules to say he couldn't. Sheffield has made an application and waiting, they said they should find out by the end of this year. As I want to start in January, I hope they have it by then. I wonder if I should look more closer at Sheffield 🤔

Hi @SashaK15

How are you? That's great to know you're going to start your MSc soon. I started my MSc in September in The Psychology of Health and Wellbeing and it's definitely exceeded my expectations.

I also have colleagues on the MSc Psychology course and they too are loving it. I hope you also feel the same when you begin. Let me know how things pan out for you!

Hi Sasha, I just received an offer from this uni but haven't decided whether I should accept it or not. How do you like your experience so far? Are you receiving enough guidance and support?

I'm really reluctant to accept the offer, given all the reviews I've been reading here and there.
