Resit on module that’s over 40%

Hi,

I passed all my other modules but one. I got 43% overall on one of the modules I need a resit in.

It consisted of two essays, one 80% which I got 54 in and one 20% which I did not submit due to personal things getting in the way and completely flew out my head and I got 0 in it for missing it.

But this essay I failed is not mandatory to pass but I still have to resit it?

I am first year and my overall average score was 48% but I thought over 40 was a pass for the year…?

Just confused…

Hi, unfortunately it sounds you need to re-take like because you missed submission. This is often the case if you haven't made a 'valid' attempt at the assessment, as Uni regulations usually require completion of all module assessments for a pass to be awarded. It really depends on your uni though - would be best to email the module tutor to clarify why you need to resit and if there is anything else affecting you passing the year

You need to read the regulations for the module concerned. Presumably, you need to pass both elements of this module to pass it overall: i.e. it's not enough to pass one part and fail the other, in the way you have.

Hi @Alexander002 ,

I think that it is likely that your university would require you to pass all elements of the module, rather than just the overall module itself. Often this is the case that you need to pass each section, even if it is a much smaller overall percentage of your grade.

It could also be the case because you did not submit anything that you have to resit it so that you have actually submitted something. This is also often the case so that students are still submitting their work even if they have enough credits to pass.

I would suggest talking to your tutors about this and ask them to clarify if and why you have to resit - just so you know for future years!

You could also talk to your tutors and explain that you had some personal things going on. They may not be able to do anything about this, but at least they will know why you didn't submit your work.

I hope some of this helps,

Lucy -SHU student ambassador.
