I missed the A-Level grades I needed to reapply to medical school last year (I applied in Year 13, but had 0 offers). I took a gap year, resat 2 A-Levels, reapplied to medical school, currently waiting on the outcome. I documented my entire experience practically every day since October 2024 on my GYG blog! I am happy to answer any questions, please drop me a message if you have any, you do not have to do this alone 💖

Here is the official list of unis that accept resits for medical school, I did check other sites as this doesn’t seem to be updated, but combining these with my 2nd UCAT score, university’s website (don’t miss this step!!) and some advice from TSR, I applied to KMMS, Aston, ARU and HYMS!

Did you only take one gap year then? Thought application is before resits so did you just put pending grades? Also do you need to get another set of predicted grades? Thanks

Yes I took only one gap year and yes my 2 A-Levels I was planning on resitting I had down as pending on my ucas application. I had 2 achieved A-Levels from 2024, and 2 predicted grades for my resits. I got told my predicted grades would stay the same as they were in Year 13, so I didn’t get a new set.

I just got AAB (b in chem, missed the A by 19 marks) and I’m planning to retake chemistry + got my ucat booked for 22nd September. I got a terrible score last year and I wasn’t aware you had to take the UCAT a year before application for gap years too (I’m stupid) so I haven’t got a lot of time to prepare!!! (I’m stressed in summary and idk what to do) ive heard that tutors are useless for UCAT but what about resitting an a level ? Anybody got any tips about how I should go about that?? Thank you

Reply 15

I received AAB in a levels but I’m contextual, is it still possible to get a place without resitting as long as I get a decent UCAT?

For UCAT, medify or medentry is the most commonly used. You have 4-5 weeks which should be enough. Prioritise your weaker areas and try get lots of practice in. We have the UCAT thread for 2026 entry also with tips.
Regarding a tutor for A-level, it's honestly up to you in terms of your finances and how much support you feel you need. Have you tried having a thorough look through the exam board specification to guide your revision?
Try to focus on interview preparation earlier rather than later (a bit at a time, just more frequently)

Yes! Do have a look at Newcastle's Partner programme to see if your contextual fits their criteria. Your current AAB would score 32 out of 40, which you can quite compensate for it with a decent/stellar UCAT.

Hi I got AAB maths com sci and Chemistry B
Do we have university that can takenAAB for medicine or should I need to resit?
