Medicine 2026 entry for resit / retake / gap year applicants

Hi everyone,

I got AAC at A-level (with Chemistry at C). I applied through UKWPMED and received offers from Birmingham and Leicester, but unfortunately missed them as both required ABB.

I’m now planning to resit Chemistry and also sit the UCAT again. I have a few questions:

1. Will universities still consider me for the UKWPMED programme if I am resitting?

2. I read that some universities (like King’s) allow resits but require at least ABB at first sitting. Since I achieved AAC, would I still be considered after a Chemistry resit?

3. Which medical schools accept resit applicants with AAC at first attempt?

4. If my UKWPMED eligibility won’t be honoured after resits, are there any contextual offers I can still apply for?

5. I’m also open to applying for Medicine with a Foundation/Access Year if that’s a better route for my situation.

Any advice or shared experiences would be really helpful thank you!

Predicted after resit: AAA

Hey guys I have missed my insurance offer for med of ABB by 1 mark in chemistry (I am getting it remarked as there seems to have been an issue marking a question)… However, my uni is now saying they won’t accept me even though I may have met the offer. Not sure what to do anyone have any advice ?

Now thinking I’m going to be forced into retaking the UCAT and applying for foundation year medicine and also the same university again that gave my insurance offer this year…

signposting to @KA_P to ask if best to email and ring university to explain how close you were to meeting that Chemistry condition, and to request them to hold it if possible until the outcome of the remark?

I ahve already done this and they said that they are confirming numbers and basically said no - Not sure what to do it feels really unfair when now I’m gonna have to UCAT again etc even if it turns out I met the offer.

Can they offer you for next year if full their year? Saves on redoing UCAT.

I’m gonna try phone them again and email head of medicine if the remark comes back as an A. I don’t actually know what to do.

Could you confirm what your original offer was and what grades you got on results day? Also, have they rejected you on UCAS?

I had thought unis usually have till 2nd Sept, suggested by UCAS to give students the opportunity for priority reviews? Not all unis practices this 2nd Sept but most should give students the time for review.

If in the worst case scenario the uni reject you despite you have a bumped up grade after review, the uni should offer a place for next year entry.

The above info provided by my school's UCAS teacher.

I got BBB - the offer is ABB - I’m waiting on two remarks in both bio and chem. They have also rejected me on UCAS.

I presumed you have let both unis know by writing that you are having the two papers priority reviewed? If they have acknowledged your communication, IE email. They should uphold the priority review period, pending your remarked results.

Press on, don't give up!

Good luck for the re mark- I really hope your grade goes up. As JonJon said, let’s hope if they won’t budge for this year, they’ll give you a deferred entry for next year. If I’ve learnt anything from helping my daughter through this process, anything can happen!

They have acknowledged the communication but haven’t said anything about being able to hold a place in their response. So who knows !

If your remark comes back grade bump up before 2nd Sept (some unis may use 31st Aug). These med schools are obligated to accept you. All the best. Again this info was given to me by my ucas teacher as I sent my physics paper in for review.

I'm having my physics paper review too, not that it matters for my firm choice med school. Just wasn't happy with the exam boards poor handling of this years physics papers. 🙂 Am 1 mark away from a A* for physics.
