Supporting partners student finance application, is she my dependant?

Hi there,

Thanks for your help in advance!

My partner has recently applied for student finance for Sept 2025. As part of this i need to support her application as we live together. When completing my part of this i saw that she had listed herself as my dependant.

Is this just how the support a partners application section works? She doesnt depend on me financially in any way so is this correct?

I wanted to check before completing my support of her application. If you can let me know that'd be great!

I myself will be going back to University in September so neither of us will be dependant on eachother, though her application has listed herself as if she depends on me?

Hi Leah, yes thats correct on the email it is 'Support a student finance application'

We are both currently in full time employment but looking looking to start university in september. I was just unsure why is stated she was a dependant of me? She is not financially dependant or disabled in any way

Hi Mcjoe123,

It won't matter when you both support that part of the application for the income assessed element regardless as you are both students however, you can upload a cover letter to your account if you wish to state that your partner is not dependent on you. If you are referring to section 6, that is for children only, if that has any of your details completed in error, it will be removed from the assessment when it is processed for you.

My only concern with section 6 is it asked me if i had any other dependants (which i dont). But my girlfriend was already listed in section 6 as my dependant? Which i found strange.

If this is ok / normal i will continue on and submit. Please can you confirm this.

Just want to be sure we are both filling the applications out correctly, thankyou ! :smile:
