Applying vet med

Hi!! I am looking for advice for applying vet med.

Fyi my grades: GCSE 97777666 (bio got a 6 but i retake it result unknown yet) A-levels predicted grade A*A*A for chem, psych, bio

Work experiences: 90 hours of vet clinic (around 2 weeks) , 56 hours volunteering in a farm, (upcoming) going to do 40 hours of volunteering in a animal shelter, what i did is not very veterinary related but I did one week of volunteering in HKSPCA centre (its an animal rescue centre) -> do i need more experiences?

I have also done a mooc about animal behaviour and I have also visited the veterinary practice of HK jockey club for a day and I have visited a lecture in RVC before about aniaml behaviour and witnessed a dissection

Right now I am struggling at how to write my personal statement as I don't want to be those who start with since I was 3 I want to be ...
But I really dont know how to write it.

And is there any recommendations of applying, and any tips on SAQs?

I might apply for RVC, bristol, nottingham , UCLan (tbh idk about my choices, any recommendations pls?)

Thank you so much

Your results and experience look amazing! Honestly, your personal statement does not matter much at all for RVC, Bristol and Nottingham. UCLan give you a template to follow so it should make it easier for you!

Hi, I applied in the 2024 cycle and got through to all my interviews. I also really struggled with my personal statement when writing it. The best advice I got was to write it kind of like a story and link your experiences together. Is there something that you learnt in the Mooc that you saw on work experience or vice versa was I prompt a teacher gave me. Linking your experiences together explaining what you learnt/understood and then what further steps you took as a result of that really helps to demonstrate your passion for vet med. In my personal statement, I spoke about how I completed a poster on aggression in dogs which was prompted by the banning of the XL bully. I then linked this to the treatment I saw of a dog in a vet practise and how I found the application of something I learnt fascinating. I hope this makes sense and was helpful.
Good luck, just remember the first attempt isn’t always perfect!

I agree with the above. A personal statement for this kind of course should be a kind of logical (and also true) story which details your experiences and achievements to date and why you want to continue to develop yourself and ultimately pursue your studies of the course.

Any and all statements you make in the detail of the above MUST be supported by clear examples or other 'evidence' to support them. If you saw something, learned something, experienced something, include it. You need to mention that you are interested in the science behind veterinary medicine (because ultimately it's a scientific field), the practicalities of it and also emphasise your people/soft skills, detailing your work experience or part time work or whatever extra-mural activities you have been involved with.

The above will also be a template or rough outline you might use to talk about in any interview if one is offered. Anything you write in your personal statement may be considered fair game so if you write about or describe something exotic, don't be surprised if someone asks about it in an interview.
