Personally if you do think you are going to struggle, then push back your UCAT to the very last day before new term starts.

As for DM, my way of improving was to learn what the word means. Use the board to draw out questions in logic. Worst case for questions I flagged and in doubt that I went back later, with time permit, place a no (but this is in the very worst case, please don't do it my way).

What platform are you using medify or medentry for your mocks?

Medify is "unoffically" more challenging than the official UCAT assessment itself. Usually, candidates should get higher during the actual test.

Coming to holiday, its a question that you alone need to decide really and set your priority (yes I know holiday is expensive and may have been pre-planned months ahead) - but will you want to go on holiday gambling on the basis that you ace UCAT or otherwise? I personally have not gone on holiday for the past two years because I wanted to set my priority right by ensuring I would be able to cross the hurdle towards med school, ie the all most important UCAT. Some may not agree with my viewpoint nor not should everyone should do what I done, but priority is extremely critical at this stage.

For context, a fellow school mate of mine (stellar academically) took his UCAT early with pre-planned holiday. His UCAT was <2450 (out of 3600) on the day and struggled to get med interview but was extremely extremely fortunate to get a med offer in the end, though he was still complaining it was not the med school he desired (speechless).

Not here to scare you but encouraging you to think critically, if possible set your priority, as UCAT is only ONCE but is the next most important key to your next phase in med application.

Hi! Anyone else sit their exam today?

Might still be early days for applicants, quite a percentage took our UCAT in mid-end August last summer previously to give us some breathing space.

If you have taken yours today, hope it went well!

Not worse than what I'm getting
You've still got a lot of days to improve
Watch videos with a peace of mind so that you can concentrate properly and find where you missed and how you can reflect on it

(This advice was given by my senior)

It's strongly recommended to have additional resources as there are only 4-5 sets of mocks on UCAT official website.

I used both medentry + medify last year for my UCAT. In terms of difficulty

Medify > Medentry >= UCAT official resources. Medentry, I would say slightly more difficult, but some would say on par with official UCAT resources.

Are there any good methods of improving QR within 5-ish weeks? (26th August UCAT)

I understand that I have time to improve, but I was really taken aback by the time pressure in the mocks, especially with table questions (my nemesis).

Currently I'm working on VR/ SJT/ DM on Medify and I'm trying to build up my confidence with passmedicine on QR because I get depression just by looking at my current standing in Medify (the average Medify student really is a superhuman being).

Should I focus on untimed practice first then switch to timed practice once I manage to get high-ish scores or are there other techniques people would recommend?

To improve QR, if a question looks soo long (like the table questions u mentioned) just guess it, flag it and move on, and look at these flagged questions at the end. It's better to answer many easy questions that u k how to do instead of staying stuck on a few hard questions, which wastes SO MUCH time.

Try not to use the calculator as much as you can, personally I learnt some mental maths tricks on Medentry which have been really useful, but idk if Medify has this as well - maybe Youtube?

PLS USE THE OFFICIAL UCAT RESOURCES A LOT - I'm resitting the UCAT this year because I used Medify last year and only used the official resources a tiny bit. On Medify my scores were around 2800-3000 but I got so used to the question style on Medify and by test day, I completely flopped the UCAT as I didn't get used to the official UCAT questions. The stress got to me and I got a really low score :frown:

I've never heard of passmedicine, but I'd say carry on using Medify, as well as official UCAT resources, even if it makes you depressed. Lots of people have said Medify is way more challenging than the actual UCAT, so you're doing finee

I think untimed practice is important to perfect your techniques, but don't do it for too long! I'd say do untimed practice for one week and then switch to timed practice when you've perfected your technique.

Hope this helps!

Thank you, I'll definitely keep that in mind when revising.
